New addition to the Deluxe Apartment in the Sky… a rescue and man, is she good. Her name is Nelly (Her original mama called her Chanel- no, not having any of that) Thinking that Violet might be good. But she’s going to be spoiled rotten and loved hard. And she will have so much music to listen to and feel. We don’t see much of Keevin on this end of West 7th. In fact, this a first for me. He is so infamous there’s even a music bar that the restaurant and music friends hang out late in. The vibe is casual and you never know who you might see and give a knowing smile to. So…He’s not lost; he’s just in the mood for excitement. Hockey season has started and goodies get dropped on the ground before winter starts. Maybe he’s waiting to hop on a Teddy Swims tour truck. Or maybe Sturgill Simpson. Today is World Alzheimer’s Day.
It’s incredibly bittersweet as I remember those in my life who have left this world with the disease and those so very close who are living with dementia leading to it.
This woman has been my support and cheerleader. She’s been my cabaret manager and Pres of my fan club. I’ve ridden shotgun so many miles and sang so many songs with her that I can’t even remember… but she STILL remembers those melodies and lyrics and has a beautiful voice.
I get it from my mama.
I’m hoping to prevent the rest.
Be aware of the signs and symptoms. Check on caregivers. Remember those who are still here. 🙏🏻💜✨. ( and yes, I KNOW I haven’t really posted much of anything personal about myself… but well IYKYK. And I’m just coming back from getting me back. Caregivers and empaths are a mix. 🙏🏻💜✨🪷) by @megingras

Today was the Twin Cities Walk To End Lupus and I was more than happy to volunteer. So I showed up with a smile and my White Feather Foundation Hat (a nod to Our World Ambassador and the amazing foundation that also brings Lupus Awareness to the forefront). My green volunteer tee was awesome and LOUD and I was able to help.  After living with this disease for 39 years and LIVING WELL - I wanted to be able to give back more to my community. And today’s goal was to maybe reach ONE person.  The turnout was great and the goal was surpassed and this walk raised over $52K for Lupus. This was individuals and teams. I met people from all walks of life and ages and then a song came on and I decided to dance with a family. Me dance? Any time I get the chance. And as the walk was slowing down the older gentleman came up to me and said can I give you a hug? I said hugs are the best medicine ever. And He said thank you for coming and dancing with us. We loved it. He then brought me over to sit with his family to talk about lupus and how it has affected them as a whole and to meet his daughter, a fellow Lupus warrior. After talking, we exchanged numbers and she said “thank you so much. It is so awesome to see someone live so long with something that can just sneak up on you. What really is your secret?”  I said… A little bit of denial, laughing a lot, dancing when you can, doing what you love, giving hugs, and not postponing joy. Find yourself a mantra and live it. Not postponing joy has been mine for years and will always be my mantra.  We hugged and I knew that my goal was surpassed just like the Twin Cities goal this year!  Today was a good day.
