Believe me when I tell you pressing share on this is one of the scariest things I’ve ever done, and I’ve literally birthed a baby by myself in a bathroom.

Introducing the Mother Makes Music podcast. For years I’ve thought about how nice it would be to be able to connect with other moms working in the music industry. And I couldn’t find anything like that here, so I made it.

In my notes app from September 2017 I have the stats I shared at my first CCMA AGM regarding the lack of gender parity on their three main stages. My voice was so shaky and I was literally no one anyone knew at the time, but even then I knew we could do better.

For almost ten years in so many small ways I have tried to advocate for equity in the music industry within my own circles. I dream of continuing to do so in not so small ways in the future.

Thanks to @keychangeeu for having me as part of this year’s DEIA Leadership cohort. Getting to wrap up our program at Reeperbahn and bop around Hamburg with four (plus one!) of the coolest Canadians around was a dang joy and a half. by @megmckay__

We decided early in the summer that once a week we’d have a “Downtown Adventure”. The last one of the season was to High Park, where we’ve gone once a summer for the last six years to take a photo in front of our favourite sign and document the passing of time.

In the summer, we’re a constant trio. I never forget how lucky I am that life has allowed me to spend so much time with my darlings.

Eleanor starting grade one has me thinking about this idea of eighteen summers. It’s not something I particularly subscribe to (guilt is not my preferred motivator) but I can understand the sentiment. Time passes so slowly and so quickly in a way I never understood before becoming their Mom. It’s all so precious and fleeting.

Cheers to summer and to the little loves of my life and all the extra time together and every stage being my favourite. by @megmckay__

In the fall I sent the Keychange application link to a friend and said, “Imagine I actually got into this?” And then I did. A good reminder to not let Imposter syndrome get you down and put your name forward for the things you want, regardless of whether or not you think you’re likely to get it. Because who knows - someone might see something in you and you might get to go on an incredible journey with some really interesting people. taken in Tallinn, Estonia by @megmckay__
