This is the story of two Annapolis Singer/Songwriters who decided to start an Americana project. While doing hair one afternoon, Meg and Laura spent too much time trying to come up with a clever band name- weaving in sisterhood, motherhood, ancestry, astrology, healing and Americana symbols. Hallows. Sepia. Tide. Feather. Sisters. Wives. Mothers. Coven. The randomness of trying to patch two words together to capture the project was daunting.

All at once one of them exclaimed “sissy witch!” And they both cackled.

They went back to the other combinations, but none of them quite landed like Sisiwitch. Laura quickly said that she would need her sister’s blessing to use the name- as she has a hold on the name Sissy.

So over a St Patrick’s day dinner, Laura shared the news that she had a new Americana band named Sisiwitch and she needed either Sissy’s blessing or she would have to join the band.

To her surprise she immediately said “I’ll be in the band!”

And so a trio was formed. And added bonus…Sisiwitch translates literally to bird and the chirping sounds of birds in the Philippines. A curious happy accident for a bunch of Songbirds. 🧙‍♀️ 🐦 by @megmurraymusic
