When a short story contest was announced with publication as the first-place prize, Ember Owens figured it could be the ticket to secure her future. As an added challenge, though, entrants must write their stories with a partner, and choose their genre from a hat. In a cruel twist of literary fate, Ember must now co-write a love story with Matt Callahan, a popular lacrosse player at her college who is incapable of feeling anything and isn’t even an English major!

But when secrets from Matt’s past are revealed, Ember’s carefully crafted walls begin to crumble as she realizes he might not be the unfeeling guy she thought he was. Perhaps writing a love story is in her wheelhouse after all. However, if she can’t make sense of the relationships she’s known and redefine what love is, the contest-and Matt-may be lost to her.

Talia Scott is a spontaneous girl who wants to be an artist, despite her family’s lack of belief in her dream. When she leaves her small southern town and goes to Bridgeport College across the country, she meets Archie Morgan, a quirky, thoughtful boy who quickly becomes her best friend—and wingman. But Talia is hiding a secret that even she wants to run from…a secret that drives her out of town after graduation, thinking she can protect Archie from the darkness of her mental health.

Now, two years later, Talia is on a mission to leave a street art legacy, starting in the college town that first nurtured her love of art in the classroom. Meanwhile, post-grad Archie has been struggling to find his own passions in life, let alone dealing with the resurgence of romantic feelings Talia’s return has brought, and his family’s own mental health struggles. Can Talia and Archie face their demons, forgive, and finally understand each other? Or will their pasts continue to haunt their futures? by @megrosenthalauthor
