The Bomber Traverse // Pt. 3

Fueled by oatmeal and instant coffee, we woke up on day 3 read to “send the gap!” Backdoor gap was the crux of our trip. We were concerned about the stability but were pleased to find excellent conditions as we spaced out and made our way up and over. At the top of the pass we prepared to ride down the penny royal glacier, enjoying the expansive Alaskan mountain views.

After a fun (and sporty) descent, we began to contour over to the Bomber hut for lunch. The weight of my pack was too strenuous for my dainty collapsable poles and they smashed into smithereens and we began the first round of many pole repairs. In the end the only viable solution for the duration of that day was an Alder Tree branch we hacked down with a snow saw.

After stopping for a quick lunch at the bomber, we forged on to our final hut - Snowbird hut. This day was long as hell, navigating the multiple flat rolling sections on a splitboard was humbling to say the least. We didn’t arrive until sunset and sang songs at the top of our lungs to keep the spirits high.

Snowbird was the nicest hut of them all. With huge windows on every wall, we relished the panoramic view of the giants surrounding us.

Happy 10 years to @cardiffsnowcraft and many more to come!! Seven years ago, I met the Cardiff crew at Shaper’s Summit as a tester. I got on the Crane and ended up staying on it for the rest of the event. I was just having way too much fun. 🤷‍♀️ At the end of the week, @bjornleines handed me a board and welcomed me to the team. I’ll never forget that moment. Cardiff was my first sponsor. The first company to believe in me and give me a chance to live a little slice of what I had only ever imagined would be a dream. Since then, these boards have taken me allllll over the place. I’m grateful for this crew that feels like family now, all the days on snow we’ve gotten to share together, and for every opportunity that was sparked from that first day on. I spent the last night of my season in impassable looking up at the canyon walls and a smoke drenched sky, wondering if I’ll ever love anything as much as I love this place. Even though I’m exhausted to my bones, I find myself yearning for a little more. One more morning waking up to the calls of canyon wren, one more dip in those emerald pools, one more chance to run all the rapids that churn my guts. I guess that’s part of the magic, finding a place that can ask so much of you and still leave you wishing you had more to give. And maybe that’s why leaving never really feels quite like leaving, cause you know deep down you’ll never stop finding your way back. It’s a gift to be able to love something that much. Thanks for one hell of a Middle Fork season @helfrichriveroutfitters 💕 Now off to the Rogue for a new adventure!

I’ve spent the last decade following my curiosity wherever it led. From mountain towns to fishing boats and to all the versions of myself I’ve met along the way. But no matter what, I always find my way back to the Middle Fork. This canyon holds soooo much of me. My greatest joys, deepest heartbreaks, and the stories in between. Every bend is a memory and a reminder of how much life can unfold between these canyon walls. Cheers to another season behind the oars and to this wild way of life. Patience paid in powder! Unexpected May turns after spending quite some time waiting for things to line up. Funny how some of the best days come after you’ve almost stopped expecting them. I love splitboarding. I love seeing how far my own two feet can take me. I love Alaska and the lessons in grit this place keeps teaching me. 💙
