Blackout tattoos are one of my favorite styles to work in, and I incorporate them into a lot of my pieces but they’re definitely not something to go into blindly.

There’s a lot more to them than just “solid black,” from technique, to healing, to how they age over time. Done right, they hold up incredibly well, but they require trust in the process and a real commitment.

From stencil to final result 🤍

What eventually becomes a finished sleeve first begins as multiple stencil pieces, resizing, adjusting, and hand-drawing details directly onto the skin before we even start outlining.

For larger projects especially stencils are rarely print and place. A lot of the process is customizing the design to fit the client’s anatomy and the way the piece will wrap once it’s fully finished.

This leg sleeve was completed over 7 sessions spread across several months so it was really satisfying seeing it slowly evolve from a stack of stencil pieces into the final result.

I love documenting these stages because people usually only see the healed final tattoo not everything that goes into building it beforehand.

Definitely one of my favorite projects I’ve gotten to work on. Huge thank you to Ramon for trusting me through every stage of this piece.

One of the questions I get asked the most is how long a full sleeve takes to complete and the answer is always different depending on the project, placement, detail, skin, scheduling, pain tolerance, and overall direction of the piece.

We started Ramon’s leg sleeve back in August and finished it this May. The full project took 7 sessions total that were a mix of full day + half day appointments.

Super grateful to Ramon for the trust, patience, and consistency throughout this whole process. This one was such a fun piece to bring to life and I’m beyond stoked to finally see it fully finished 🤍

I’M MOVING! 🤍 Super stoked to share that I’ll officially be in Salt Lake City full-time starting in December. I’ve been traveling back and forth to tattoo in SLC part-time for the last few years and somehow y’all have kept my books completely full every time I’m here. So grateful to everyone who has worked around my schedule or waited to get in with me.

Can’t wait to finally open up more availability for new projects, ongoing work, and everyone I haven’t been able to squeeze into my trips. Unlike a traditional cover-up, a blastover allows the original tattoo to remain visible beneath a new design.

One of my favorite things about blastovers is that they create space for both versions of a tattoo to exist. Sometimes a tattoo no longer reflects who you are but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t an important chapter.

Concept vs. first session. 🤍 I think I hit a personal record for the number of pre-designs claimed in a single month and I’m so grateful to everyone who’s claimed one.

I’ve been waiting for someone to claim this one specifically for a while and we made so much progress in our first session that we might actually finish it next time. That’ll be the fastest I’ve ever completed a sleeve.
