Unfortunately there is no good way to start this, but I can’t not share a little about the bright light who has been so missed on this trip. Ever since I can remember, Anna was the biggest advocate for cherishing every moment spent on our family property and in the Wind Rivers.

Not only is the scenery breathtaking, but being so far removed from the distractions of normal life gives you the chance to reconnect with what truly matters. For me, that has always been spending time outside with my cousins. Unfortunately, our trips here will never feel quite the same.

I can say with complete confidence that Anna was the best role model I could have asked for growing up. Anna had the most pure of hearts. She knew my favorite things, how to make me laugh and cry happy tears, and always had the best advice. But the most incredible part is that she made everyone she loved feel that way. Anyone who had the privilege of being around her couldn’t help but feel her warmth, and we were all so fortunate to know her and call her family.

I always wanted to be just like her. I followed her around like a puppy dog. Instead of pushing me aside, she’d hold my hand, braid my hair so it looked just like hers, and always make sure there was an empty chair beside her in case my little legs had trouble keeping up with my older cousins. As I got older, I began embracing my natural curls because she wore hers with such confidence and always reminded me how lucky we were to have them. I made a conscious effort to be more welcoming, more positive, and kinder to everyone I met because, more than anything, I admired Anna’s character. She embodied the kind of person I hoped to become, and I wanted others to see me the way I always saw her.

I truly couldn’t say better things about another human being. We shared the same love for this place, and there is so much comfort in knowing that every time we are back, she will always be there with us.
