kemarin ngobrol dgn seorang penulis muda dan sepakat lesgauurrr nanti ketemuan di acara musik senang² aja drpd acara sastra. karena acara sastra is iggy pop (no fun). i mean like i love sastra but i take my sastra too seriously why so serious dunia sastra indonesia stares at me with accusing les yeux sans visage. fuck off. sedih lho dulu goblok yoof me ke salihara katanya kantong budaya edgy tp semua penulis di situ dengerinnya yes. merry xmas mongrelitas! 🎄🫶 reply with yr xmas lunch menus below 😀. now scusé moi as i launch into a bit of PSA: buat yg belum tahu, MONGREL KAMPUNG adalah buku puisiku yg kedua, diterbitkan oleh Ugly Duckling Presse di New York, home to Eugene Ostashevsky, Anne Boyer & many other fave poets o mine. moto mereka, "keeping poetry ugly", it me. MONGREL berisi puisi² yg kutulis sejak 2017 yg secara keseluruhan bisa disimpulkan isinya di slide 3 (wont be caught dead saying salindia) 😋. bbrp penyair favoritku were kind enuf to read the manuscript & wrote these zingers for MONGREL: "Wide in its range and deathless in its attention to the instant without interface, here we find the answers to some of our primary questions: how do we return to the center of now?" - Roberto Harrison, author of Tropical Lung: Exi(s)t(s). another one of my fave poets, Catherine Wagner, author of Of Course and Miss America, said "Reading Mikael Johani's explosive writing, I'm bounced out of the fucking shop for a minute. This writing is a kick and a kick in the teeth and I am grateful for it." meanwhile, my friend @joshuaipwriter's, singlish sonneteer extraordinaire and author of Translations to the Tanglish (Tang dynasty poems reimagined in Haji Lane, installed in Marina Bay Sands infinity pool) comment u can find on the last slide. someone said my poetry book is like streetwear. theyre not wrong 😋. physically, theres a lot of artisanal details u can find in the book, from the screenprinted then letterpressed cover (sl. 4, feel the texture! no two covers are the exact same!) to smooth, fountain pen-friendly paper. for the denim nerds among u, the texture of the cover can be compared to full count's 13.7oz denim after 10 years of hard wear. it's smooth AND slubby! i dont think in the 34 years that ive trod on the pavement of jalan sabang its been even once rejunenized, apart from one or two hotel fronts that encroach to the edge of the asphalt and the new concrete + pot plant arrangement in front of the new papaya. pretty much everywhere else stayed faithfully shithouse, stenchy, its loose concrete blocks hidden booby traps for yr shoes and pant hems ready to exocet dark stank rain/cucian warung water up yr legs. tis been thus since i used to hop off the old 70 double decker bus at sarinah and wormed my way thru the back alley behind the old hanamasa where there is (still) a mosque whose wudlu water tastes of iron (took a friend who used to work at mra in sarinah 20 years ago and she didnt even realise the alley existed all these years) and arrive at my destination, the old cd-only duta suara to check out if they have the latest godflesh, carcass, bolt thrower albums in the unnecessarily long american cd cases. share loc dong bang. same loc same destination, except now it's my favorite coffee shop in the city that serves the best flat white. no contest. fight me. im a regular here part of a select few who can come in before the door is even open. hurrah to privilese! rumor has it the guv'nor wants to rejuve the entire strip and the people are up in arms. one sees protest posters rolled down upstairs balconies. who knows these days if people power are even real much less if it will ever ever put one over the bueraucrazy-industrial complex, but one thing for sure if the pavement of jalan sabang one day turns squeaky clean and futurama i will miss the black soot that turns slippery when wet and the stench of rotten humanity in the air. taken in Saudagar Kopi Sabang by @mekitron

ive always wondered all my life why how sometimes it took me two years to reply to a very important email that mightve changed the course of my life but since i was two years too late it didnt but then there were those lucid times when i could do an all nighter and then some to finish a 4000-word essay and still have energy left to make a cooking video for tiktok. and this, 3 years after the ceiling collapsed during a new years party at my house, finally ive made real progress in cleaning the shelves and dusting all the books one by one. ive been treated for depression and anxiety, but in the past 2 years ive been seeing a superb psikolog puskesmas who really cares about me and a psychiatrist who is observing me for bipolar and adhd symptoms, prescribed me medications for both conditions but said, wisely methinks, lets just hold off on the "diagnosis". tbh idgaf abt dsm-v, im a firm believer in old freudian jungian psychoanalysis, plonking myself on a couch and tell my stories while my dude/dudette tries to make sense of my madnesses (what is madness?), that are often also actually evidence of my diy attempts at self-care. i dont want my diagnosis ditegakkan or whatever i just want to feel better in my noggin and in other areas of my body, i want my meds to work, and i want to have someone i can always talk to to give me ideas from outside of my head that i can use to improve my quality of life. such as it is! lol. might take years but i dont mind. ill walk 10ks a day so ill have enough time left in this world after a heart attack and two stents put in. look i dont want to be complicit in the trauma industrial complex without at least offering a bit of hope to cling on to, okay: after a few experiments my meds are pretty much working, i can focus more, i did a review for my friend's poetry book on youtube having promised her to do it 5 years ago, and yeah, in the great tradition of paris is burning, the library is open! officially! 😎🕶️🤓 cause reading is whaaat? tsundoku? i hardly know u! taken in Cempaka Putih, Jakarta Pusat by @mekitron

tbh in 20ish years of being neck deep in the murky soup tht is SASTRA FUCKING INDONESIA ive experienced more heartaches & mudharat drpd mangfaat. sure ive been blessed w/ a position of privilege having been able to do basically wht i want while my colleagues are forced to mindhik mundhuk coz economic or politik sastra pressures (more often both) but tht doesnt mean i havent had to deal w/ cunty behaviors from peeps from all walks of life who shouldve known better. dr diancam dibunuh (3x), digosipin di belakang dan di depan, dicancel, dicharacter assassinate sbg homophobic cishet enabler, dicap npd sama seorang penyair besar nonjawakarta yg surprise² kok dia ga dituduh ableist ya? coba gue yg nuduh orang npd!, having to turn a blind eye biar ga bikin makin rame to pengecut yg di dm minta² bang kasi tahu dong bang soal politik sastra trus di timeline threw me under the bus krn katanya ga kuat dgn tekanan politik sastra? wtf? lucky if yr double decker woke bus crashes into me i only grow more mouthy annoying and EEEVILL u sad cowardly insecure bitch!, diceramahin to "behave" sama randos sliding into my dm, ive lived longer than uve sucked up to sastra gatekeepers u sok suci snowflakes! motherfucker why i havent patrick batemaned all of youse idk why. anyways that cliche just when i thought i was out blablabla applies every time. but! there are times like ⬆️ when the cosmos shows it can be kind, cuddles me in soft cloud, restores my faith in humanity. this book, and the author adith wardana's framed bday poem-manifesto omg more than make up for my 100 years of solitary iconoclasting. it really is enough that some people get you some of the time,

many of the names in this poster and many others not on it were at one time or another or are currently STILL having massive beef with each other but everyone put their differences and ego aside for a few hours last night to raise a toast to our friend, guru, mentor, panutan, hero, top dog @bangsautsitumorang and raise money for his recovery in a hospital in far away guangzhou and swift safe return to indonesia, negerinya yang selalu terluka. suck on that ithaca! let's pray it doesn't take him nearly as long as odysseus to come home! amen🙏 by @mekitron
