On this day of love, I’m reflecting on Sanford telling me he was going to propose to Davis in the garden where Matt and I were married 28 years ago. I think I cried for two days 😭. He had waited so patiently for her to chase her big dreams, and it was finally time for their future to truly start!!
He had a vision for everything. Cole and Michelle set into motion to create it. He wanted it to be ‘very organic, not over the top.’ THEN, God decided to add his special touch & blanket it with a gorgeous snowfall!! It was all more than we could have imagined. I’ve seen my baby girl happy many times in her life, but nothing compared to the joy of this day! Thank you to those who came to help celebrate them, it meant so much! I have no clue how a wedding will even top this engagement, but we will certainly give it a try! 😉❄️🩵 by @melanieewash

I went to Chris at The Chapman Company Fine Jewelers after learning he was a member of the former Jewelry Warehouse. “Back in the day” they created pendants for local title holders with the Miss South Carolina organization. I still have mine, and I remember how special and personal they were. Matt & I wanted to gift Davis something at the end of her Miss SC reign, and I described everything I wanted. Especially the number 87, which symbolizes that she was the 87th Miss SC. What Chris created, completely from just our vision, is beyond our dreams! I cannot recommend him enough. He was beyond gracious and now that he has the mold made, I hope this will again become a tradition for Miss South Carolina and local title holders 👑. THANK YOU CHRIS!! by @melanieewash

There have been many times over the years that I question my sanity for being so loyal to the Gamecocks. THEN, I took the long overdue step back on the field as a Carolina Coquette (Alumni). All the reasons why made sense!! The feeling of being with these ladies who I cherish, the memories we made over those years, the university we all love to come Home to! Today was Davis’ Homecoming Celebration hosted by the Miss Clemson Committee! It was so much fun catching up with friends and family who have all loved Davis and supported her through all the years! Davis is the 87th Miss South Carolina & going to Miss America!!!!! How is this real?!?!
I am at a loss to put two things into words tonight. How it feels to watch your child work so hard for something and then be so richly rewarded, and the gratitude I have for those who have been on that long journey with her.
