Thank you Curator @jadine.collingwood and Curatorial Assistant @korinavh for all the tremendous effort to bring this exhibition to life.

Slow Dance features six artists who use performance to reclaim forms of slowness that resist the contemporary demand to constantly perform, whether in the public sphere, on social media, or in the workplace.

Featuring works by Brendan Fernandes @brendanfernandes , Gordon Hall @gordon_hall_ , Geumhyung Jeong @geumhyung_jeong , Carolyn Lazard @insicknessandstudy , Melanie McLain @melaniekmclain , and Cally Spooner, this multidisciplinary exhibition includes painting, sculpture, video, and live performance. Focused on how bodies wear away and how they endure, these artists contend with the protracted economies of waiting, the near-constant obligation to compete in labor markets, and fatigue’s latent potential as a form of resistance. While exploring conditions of failure, breakdown, or exhaustion, these artists model new modes of reciprocity, intimacy, and connection that challenge the weathering effects of our contemporary imperative to perform.

Excited to be showing Peripersonal @mcachicago in the exhibition Slow Dance curated by @jadine.collingwood alongside five other incredible artists.

Opening September 12th

I will have performances on the opening day at 10:45am and 1:45pm

La exposición revisita el legado del feminismo de la diferencia y su vigencia en el presente a través de la obra de diez artistas que desarrollan su práctica en México. Desde disciplinas como la pintura, el video, la escultura y la performance, las piezas exploran el cuerpo más allá del binarismo de género, el lenguaje como espacio de poder y transformación, y la imaginación de nuevas formas de existencia que replantean la relación entre humanidad y naturaleza. Más que ilustrar una teoría, la muestra pone en evidencia cómo estos pensamientos siguen permeando el imaginario contemporáneo y abren nuevas posibilidades para cuestionar lo que se ha naturalizado sobre el género.

“Deseos Diferentes” is an exhibition curated by Dorothée Dupuis at Museo Cabañas, featuring Melanie McLain, who is represented by the gallery.

On view through May 24, 2026.

The exhibition revisits the legacy of difference feminism and its relevance today through the work of ten artists developing their practice in Mexico. Across painting, video, sculpture, and performance, the works explore the body beyond gender binarism, language as a space of power and transformation, and the imagination of new forms of existence that rethink the relationship between humanity and nature. Rather than illustrating a theory, the exhibition reveals how these ideas continue to permeate the contemporary imaginary, opening new possibilities to question what has been naturalized about gender.
