Trying what’s inside an Australian Army ration pack – Part 6

Continuation of my series of trying the individual items from the ration pack from my earlier reel.

This time I tried the banana and maple porridge, and the tube of sweetened condensed milk. I thought the texture of the porridge was not the most appetizing, but then again it does come in a pouch and I guess porridge is meant to be sort of gooey!

The taste was not my favourite as it was a bit sour, so I looked for some sugar or other sweeteners in the MRE and I found the tube of sweetened condensed milk! It made it soooo much better because it was nice and sweet and creamy. It’s so handy that it comes in a tube too so it’s easy for on the go and also can be reused compared to if it was in a tear off packet.

Continuation of my series of trying the individual items from the ration pack from my earlier reel.

I couldn’t believe how soft and how much texture the bread had! It was squishy and bouncy. The sealed packet it was in really did an amazing job keeping the moisture locked in.

I used some butter from my fridge with the vegemite, so slightly cheating because the butter didn’t come with the pack (refrigerated item). The vegemite tube was so cute and tiny!

I personally didn’t love the lemon lime flavour of the isotonic drink, but I saw there was another flavour packed so looking forward to trying that one.

The musk sticks flavoured lifesavers were a nice throwback! I used to love them when I was younger

On Wednesdays, we brunch in pink 🎀💗

📍 Temperance Society, Kangaroo Road, Hughesdale

The prettiest brunch spread — Manchego lamb croquettes with beetroot hummus + a pink dragon smoothie 🌸✨ Almost too pretty to eat… almost 🤭

Temperance Society always hits the mark! I sat outside this time out the front and with the lovely spring weather warming up it was so lovely. What is better than brunch and fresh air! This was such an aesthetic spread, the smoothies are gorgeous! The pink dragon smoothie has some delicious coconut yoghurt inside too.

POV: the mango emoji came to life in ice cream form🥭

I finally got my hands on the viral mango that literally looks like this emoji 🥭

Found it at an Asian grocery and honestly… the resemblance is WILD 😂 From the shape and colour to the realistic finish, I almost didn’t want to bite into it.

But obviously we had to see what was hiding inside 👀

Wait for the reveal… 🥭 It was actually surprisingly delicious and creamy, and the outside shell was a thin white chocolate

POV: you lined up for the MollyTea Daydream blind box magnet… and actually pulled the one you wanted 😭✨

I lined up 10 mins before the store opened and was second in line!

Two drinks = one blind box magnet and somehow I got the one I wanted. I loved the one with the cute little monster sitting in the car. Also the bag is sparkly!!! 🥹 The Daydream series is way too cute ☁️🧋

This family run Italian restaurant has been feeding Melbourne for 50 years 🇮🇹

There’s something special about a restaurant that’s been feeding Melbourne for half a century ❤️🇮🇹 Old-school Italian, family-owned and right in the heart of Carlton.

The pasta platter is such a good-value way to try the menu — you get to choose three different pastas, so you don’t have to commit to just one 👀🍝 Perfect for sharing (or when you can never decide what to order 😂).

We also loved the Bruschetta Siciliana topped with prosciutto, and you KNOW we couldn’t leave without tiramisu… creamy, indulgent and SO good. 🤤

I walked past these at Coles so many times and finally decided to try the viral M&S Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpillar sweets 🇬🇧🍬

I’ve seen these everywhere online, so I had to see if they actually lived up to the hype 👀

Percy Pig had that classic fruity, chewy texture with a sweet berry flavour, while Colin the Caterpillar was a slightly sickly cherry flavour 🍒 🐛 (I wouldn’t recommend these cherry ones unless you like the taste of glacé cherries - personally I’m not a big fan)

Such a fun little taste of the UK available in Australia! Have you tried these yet?

Found the viral tanghulu trend at an Asian grocery 🍓✨

Usually seen at fresh tanghulu stores, so I was curious to try this version while grocery shopping 👀 The crunchy sugar shell was so satisfying to crack into, with the juicy fruit inside making the perfect sweet and refreshing combo 🤤🍡

Such a fun little treat to pick up if you’ve been wanting to try the tanghulu hype! Also it was so windy that day! 💨

This is the kind of meal Melbourne winter was made for ♨️

Start with their comforting beef bone broth, a light yet flavourful soup base that already comes loaded with deliciously bouncy beef balls. 🥣

But the fresh beef is the real star 🥩 The chuck flap was ridiculously tender and needs just 8 SECONDS in the bubbling broth, while the tender beef slices are perfect for a quick swish before dipping and eating. 🤯

POV: you found the perfect brunch stop for your next Melbourne day trip 🌿☕️

📍 Blackwork Cafe, Croydon

Make a day out of it and escape the city for brunch + a little adventure in Melbourne’s east. With parks, reservoirs, farms and plenty to explore nearby, it’s an easy excuse for a weekend drive, some fresh air and a seriously good feed. 🚗🌿

The brunch here definitely isn’t your standard café fare either 👀 I loved the Pork Belly Benny served on a whole wheel croissant 🥐, rich, crispy, buttery and flaky all in one bite.

The Barramundi was another standout, paired with creamy makhani sauce, roasted veg, goat cheese mousse and fresh Turkish ezme salsa, with pomegranate and salmon roe adding those sweet, tangy and salty pops of flavour. 🤤 Such an unexpected combination, but it worked SO well.

Save this one for your next weekend road trip, family outing or brunch adventure in Melbourne’s east! 📌

Freshly baked blueberry lemon muffins straight from the oven 🫐🍋✨ [recipe in caption]

Soft, fluffy and packed with juicy blueberries, with the perfect hint of fresh lemon in every bite. The combination of sweet blueberries and bright citrus makes these so light, fresh and perfect with a cup of coffee or tea ☕💛

Recipe - makes ~12 depending on size of muffins
2.5 cups of self raising whole meal flour
3/4-1 cup of brown sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup of fresh blueberries coated in flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1.5 cups of buttermilk
