The chips at Disuko are exactly like McDonald’s for 3 times the price. Get you get a bit of parsley sprinkled on top for the price of $14, and a side of aioli. Nothing special and nothing worth booking a 5pm seating.

Todays chips are from Kooroora Hotel in the mount buller village.

On a cold snowy day these were perhaps the best things we could’ve had.

The seasoning was delicious and evenly dispersed. Chips were accompanied by both aioli and ketchup. And they were served with haste.

Much like everything found in the australian alps, they were audaciously expensive. At $18 a serve I am tempted to say these are the most expensive chip we’ve reviewed to date. (upon further research we have found one that is more expensive, these take 2nd place though)

To conclude, these chips kept us warm and well fuelled for our day on the slopes however they can certainly be improved by coming with a smaller price tag. 7/10

Today’s chips come from the Hickens Hotel. This place is new enough that you might not have heard of it, but old enough that they’ve already had time to work out how to serve their chips.

The chips themselves were fairly standard. Reasonably salted, quite crunchy and,the skin was left on which made them extra crispy which is always exciting.

They were paired with aioli and went down very nicely alongside a Guinness and a repeat of the Adelaide v Bulldogs elimination final.

The chips however will set you back $15, which is almost the same price as a pint of Guinness. Disgraceful.

Today’s chips are from @oche.aus , on the corner of elizabeth and lonsdale street.

These peculiar chips tasted and felt like a wedge, but looked like a chip (?) They had the fluffy potato-iness and the seasoning of a wedge, it was a very weird experience.

With their wedge-likeness, a sour cream and sweet chilli sauce selection would’ve been fire, however we were presented with ketchup and aioli. Weird.

At $15 a serve they certainly aren’t winning any awards for value. But they were yum, which I suppose counts for something.

Overall these chips were funky. They weren’t bad, but they certainly weren’t your typical fry. Pretty good but nothing crazy. 6/10

Tonight’s chippies come from Squires Loft.

These chips were super crunchy, however initially, they needed a generous crack of salt before we could properly judge. However once they were seasoned correctly, they were elite. They were crunchy right through to the very last bite, which is exactly what we like to see.

They paired very well with two glasses of cabernet sauvignon, and even better with the steak sauces, peppercorn sauce for some, garlic sauce for others.

In fact, they were so good that the person sitting on the other side of the table decided to pinch the last of mine. It was a true sign of a good chip, even though the relationship was briefly put into question.

Today’s chips are another instalment of Melbourne Chips: Alpine Edition.

These chips are coming to you from the ABOM tuck shop in mount buller village.

These chips are usually served in a cup however they were plated with a salad as they were bought with a meal.

These chips will run you $10.95, shocking value considering you only get a cup. HOWEVER, they were the perfect mix of crunchy and soggy, well salted, perfectly satisfying.

As mentioned in previous reviews, you’re unlikely to find a bargain anywhere in the victorian snow fields, so the inflated cost of these chips isn’t something that can be avoided.

Overall these were a good lunch time pick me up that helped us remain in high spirits for the rest of what was an incredibly wet day. 7/10

Today marks five years of Melbourne Chips.
And to celebrate, we organised a late night Uber Eats delivery from Billy’s Burgers in Brunswick. Despite making the journey in the car, these chips arrived super crunchy and still surprisingly hot which is always a win, especially during these cold winter nights.

The real standout was the signature seasoning, packed with paprika, chicken salt and all sorts of other spices and flavours.

When asked, guest reviewer Harry commented “they made me reach for my Owala”. Perhaps a suggestion that the seasoning was too overwhelming for his own good?

There was plenty of flavour without completely overpowering the potato. The garlic aioli was also a nice touch and made for a very solid chips dipping situation.

Kebab shops always seem to put up reliable, non-offensive and salty chips. I’m Kebab on Swan Street in Richmond is proof of that.
The chips were served within five minutes, cost less than $5 and were perfectly seasoned.

They were your classic kebab shop chip, crispy enough on the outside, fluffy in the middle and well salted without going completely overboard.

The chips were nothing revolutionary but they were dependable and got the job done after a night at the pub, and sometimes, that’s all you need from a kebab shop.

Nothing says Melbourne quite like a Euro summer. After 6.5 weeks of eating my way through Europe, I can confidently say that while the scenery was incredible, the chips were nothing to write home about.

Overall, Europe’s chips lacked the flavour, seasoning and texture that Melbourne has. Quite often the chips were boringly baked with little to no seasoning.

One thing that surprised me was the lack of sauces. In Melbourne, chips are almost always served with tomato sauce or aioli, sometimes both if you’re lucky. Across much of Europe, you were left to fend for yourself. This was unless you happened to find a Heinz tomato sauce or mayo sachet waiting on your table.

Spain was the standout when it came to chips. Patatas bravas are a staple on menus, with the baked potatos topped with bravas sauce. This was a smoky and slightly spicy tomato-based sauce that’s often made with paprika, garlic and olive oil.

Portugal also deserves an honourable mention thanks to Potato Project. This place specialises in loaded fries. While the toppings were the main focus, the chips themselves were very good. They were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and cooked exactly how chips should be. They proved that Europe can do good chips when they put in the effort. by @melbournechips

Todays chips are from over the road in emerald.

upon their arrival, we were greeted with a lovely aroma. A mix of herbs and spices tossed somewhat unevenly across the hot chips. It should be mentioned that among this seasoning, there were a few specks of salt, self salting was required.

These chips had a nice range of crispy crunchy chips, and slightly soggy ones, a chip for everyone!

Guest reviewer Olivia had some thoughts. When enquired she volunteered this: ‘I am not blown away by them’, this was followed up by her saying she ‘might get them again if given the opportunity. Additionally ‘the relish is really yum’ - the relish was meant for the sasuage roll she had gotten for lunch.

Overall, these chips were by no means showstoppers, however they were nice, will we make the voyage back to emerald to visit them again? Unlikely. 5/10

Welcome to this week’s review.

Apologies in advance Rob, this one is from across the ditch. These chips are from @nightndaynz convenience store in queenstown, NZ.

When I tell you these chips are possibly the best waffle chips I’ve ever had in my life, I am not exaggerating.

The crunch on these were PHENOMENAL, the batter was seasoned to absolute perfection, not a pinch of self salting was necessary.

These set us back $7.50NZD, ($6.21AUD) and we would’ve paid double honestly.

They were served to us fresh from the fryer, not so hot that they caused burnt mouths, but still as fresh as could be. They managed to maintain their crispiness the whole 10 minute walk home to the accomodation - an unbelievable achievement.

Eating these chips was like 5 simultaneous orgasms in my mouth. Genuinely some of the best chips of my life. Absolutely no notes to this fine establishment. If I could give an 11 I would. However I am only at liberty to give a score between 1 and 10. Night’n day has more than earnt themselves a 10/10

Todays review is coming to you from Sal’s on swan street richmond.

These chips were piping hot, so much so that they burnt my mouth, 1 point deduction.

The skin on helped enrich the flavour however some self salting was required, always bring a spare salt packet with you wherever you go.

The chips improved the more we ate them and by the end we were left wanting more.

Overall the chips were pretty good, a nice end to a night on swan street, 7/10
