Today is my birthday! 🎉🩷
It also marks my 5 year anniversary of starting pole dancing!

Here are some highlights of my last 3 performance gigs to celebrate this milestone ✨

My first pole class was definitely life changing. Pole inspired me immensely. It gave me something to aspire to and work towards improving. It allowed me to discover a new side of myself. I never thought of myself as a good dancer before.

I am beyond grateful for the privilege to train and perform this craft!

In the past 5 years, I did

-11 performance gigs at events (mostly raves)
-2 movie roles as a pole dancer/stripper
-2 pole competitions
-1 audition for Snoop Dogg
-many moves on street poles when I lived in Banff lol
-countless pole dance classes
-countless good memories made at the studio
-countless pole kisses (bruises)
-a couple of outdoor pole jams with friends💕

Pole has given me strength, flexibility, resilience, inspiration, joy, confidence and community.

Thank you to all my amazing instructors! 💗🥹
And classmates 🙌☺️

My favourite thing in pole so far is free-styling to music at events.

•More about the fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders:

The medical staff are working tirelessly to save wounded civilians under impossibly devastating conditions.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) calls for an immediate ceasefire to prevent more deaths in Gaza and allow desperately needed humanitarian supplies in.

The indiscriminate bombing must stop. The egregious level of collective punishment currently being meted out on the people of Gaza must end.

The situation today in Gaza is catastrophic. Hospitals and clinics that are running are overwhelmed and are barely functioning. They are running out of electricity and medical supplies.
Earlier this week, Dr. Mohammed Obeid, our surgeon in Gaza described the following, “Hospitals are flooded with patients, amputations and surgeries are being carried out without proper anesthesia, and morgues are flooded with dead bodies” (MSF article, Oct 28, 2023).

Angels of the Sea 🌊🤍💦

Having the best day 🥺

Went kayaking to warm up, then went paddle boarding. I prefer the perspective/view of them paddle board. Honoured to have had them come up to me 🥹

Perfect glass calm water to see the belugas 🪞

Next time I come here I’m bringing a surf board 🏄🏻‍♀️ , a sound bowl to play music for them and an underwater camera.

I went swimming at the beach after this and they’re so vocal singing! I can hear them when I put my ear in the water.

The grey baby loved following my paddle board for a long time when I went across the river but it was hard to get more videos of the baby cuz they’d go under the board when I stopped paddling to film! 🩶🤍 taken in Churchill River by @meli__magic

1.5 hours into my pole session and 9 hours on this beach 😂
Running out of glucose, electrolytes and daylight
Foot cramps were kicking in
I got sun burned.
I didn’t use sunscreen all day oops.
Grease/oil/lotion and pole don’t mix.

I was supposed to be driving home to make it to a performance gig/festival, but I’m glad I stayed here a bit longer. It ended up being one of the best days of my road trip. Ended the day with star gazing🌌, hot tubing with friends and a hefty midnight meal 🍚🧆🫛🍄‍🟫🍉🍌

30 day solo road trip 🏔️🚐

I think it was the best month of my life 💗

I wore the blue bikini and straw hat almost everyday lol 🩵👒

I got up to a lot of fun shenanigans.
Made some new connections, met up with loved ones, danced professionally, followed my own compass 🧭
Prioritized taking care of myself and my needs.
Did something exciting everyday.
Nourished myself. 💦 📖 🍒 🍑 💤

I learned a lot.

I can’t wait to get back to this lifestyle.
Happiest I’ve ever been.

Grateful 💛🌞✨

I love working in the entertainment industry 💗💜

It makes me so happy to entertain others, express myself creatively, inspire others, connect with people.

Movies 🎬, festivals ☀️❄️, raves 🪩, parties, events, clubs.
I’ve had so many great experiences as a professional dancer :)

However, I’ve dealt with a lot of unfortunate situations. Organizers not paying invoices promptly and having to keep asking to get paid, getting haggled for less pay than we agreed upon after we’ve already done the event, misunderstandings about price per dancer after we’ve already promoted ourselves working at an event, etc

It takes a lot of hands/help to put on a show. Security, equipment handler, stage manager, prop management, photography, videography, lighting. And sometimes we’ve had to do all that ourselves in addition to being a performer. We’ve done a lot of volunteer work/underpaid work for the love of the arts and community.

Movie sets have paid me fairly for my skills. ❤️

But all the other negative experiences as a professional pole dancer led me to start dancing at clubs. I’ve toured across Canada and can tell you that dancers can be very exploited for their work and can be vulnerable. At some clubs I have to pay 50$ just to show up to work as an independent contractor or even pay “house fees” to work as a booked stage performer. And that’s with no minimum wage (I’ve worked up to 10 hour shifts at clubs!). It’s a gamble if I’ll make money some nights. No benefits or protections. No workers’ comp if you get injured. Big cuts on our earnings and sometimes mandatory tip outs to various staff members. These clubs wouldn’t exist without the dancers. So why not treat them better?
Dancers deserve better!

I’ve only been working as a professional dancer for 3.5 years.
I’ll never stop advocating for dancers to be paid more/fairly!! They make the world a better place.

I love my dance teachers, studios, burlesque performers, circus artists, aerialists, drag performers, midnight ballerinas, dancers & artists of all kinds. We deserve a fair wage. A living wage!
So many creatives have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.

Happy Earth day 🌱🌎🌳
It’s my 9 year vegan anniversary 🐷🐣🐮

Pics of the wonderful food I’ve been eating since moving to the okanagan; vegan’s paradise 🍑🍏🍒☀️
& some pottery I made 🏺🎨

I went vegan in high school after watching a bunch of documentaries on YouTube and Netflix one weekend.
Notably Dr. Michael Gregor @nutrition_facts_org had an impact on me. And @wthfilm 🫀🫁💪

Treat living beings with kindness and respect 💟
Every action we take has an impact 🦋
Don’t use cognitive dissonance to ignore the impact of our choices 🧠
Do your best ♻️
