ARARAT 🗻

Mount Ararat is much more than a mountain to the Armenian people. It is one of the most powerful symbols of Armenia, representing homeland, history, faith, and identity.

Although Mount Ararat is located today within the borders of modern day Turkey, very close to Armenia, it has been deeply connected to the historic Armenian homeland for centuries. In the early 20th century, the mountain was briefly within the territory claimed and administered by the First Republic of Armenia, following the wars and border agreements of 1920–1921, it became part of Turkey, where it remains today.

Ararat also holds an important biblical meaning. According to the Book of Genesis, after the Great Flood, Noah’s Ark came to rest upon the “mountains of Ararat.” Christian tradition later came to associate Mount Ararat itself with the resting place of Noah’s Ark.

For Armenians, the mountain has therefore become a symbol not only of the land, but also of faith, origins, survival, and continuity. It appears on Armenia’s national coat of arms, with Noah’s Ark depicted on its summit.

Perhaps what makes Ararat even more meaningful is that, although it now stands beyond Armenia’s border, its snow covered peaks can still be clearly seen from many places in Armenia. Geographically it may be outside the country, but culturally and emotionally, Ararat remains deeply Armenian.

Traditional Armenian wedding.

A traditional Armenian wedding is a beautiful celebration filled with music, dancing, family, and meaningful traditions.

The celebration begins at the groom’s home, where family and friends gather together. Traditional Armenian musicians play lively music while everyone dances and celebrates, creating a joyful atmosphere from the very beginning.

From there, the groom’s family and friends make their way to the bride’s home, accompanied by musicians, music, and dancing. They arrive carrying beautifully decorated baskets filled with gifts for the bride. One of these traditions involves the bride’s wedding shoes: one shoe is brought to her as part of the celebration. I have the special role of carrying it and presenting it to the taken in Armenia by @meline496
