It has been an incredible run, but we are officially in the FINAL WEEK TO VIEW “Before Measure”. Working alongside @chrisklapper and @patrickgallaghernyc to bring these algorithmic paintings to life at the New York Design Center (@nydc ) has been an honor.

If you haven’t had a chance to stand in front of these light-reactive works on aluminum, now is your chance NYC. You have until Friday to see the quantum world rendered in person.

“Before Measure” explores the infinitesimal anomaly of the Muon particle—translating the complex geometries of the quantum world into a visual language of resonance. Using custom software built in MaxMSP and C++ framework, the artists Chris Klapper and Patrick Gallagher emulate subatomic structures to create “Algorithmic Paintings.” Rendered via dye-sublimation on aluminum, the resulting works merge the viewer and their environment directly into the imagery, creating an atmosphere of reflection.

For Larry April 2013- July 2025 🕊️

After I lost my parents, Larry became the first family I tried to rebuild. In a life filled by disruption, he was the presence that remained. Quiet, observant, and entirely himself, he anchored me through college, terrible roommates, high pressure jobs, and a decade long relationship that would come to an end.

He stayed when my body failed me. Through a three month hospitalization and the two years it took to learn how to walk and write again, Larry adjusted without ceremony. During panic attacks that left me immobilized, he would climb onto my chest and remain there—unmoving, insistent—until my breathing returned and my body followed. He did not comfort loudly. He simply refused to leave.

Larry was deeply independent. He loved solitude and sleep, often disappearing into improbable places, frequently the warm shelf behind the refrigerator where the motor ran. Yet no matter how deeply hidden he was, he always emerged when I was in distress. He seemed to understand the difference between wanting company and needing it.

In 2018, Larry was diagnosed with a double heart murmur. It never changed how he showed up. He continued to give what he always had: steadiness, presence, and a kind of devotion that required nothing in return. Larry died at the end of July when his kidneys began to shut down, to even write that is still painful. As he left this world, I was supported by my friends @chrisklapper and @daniel_miley_usa through a display of friendship I’m forever grateful for.

Larry loved me more than I loved myself, and in doing so, he taught me how to stay. Even now, after his death, he continues to teach me about patience, endurance, and the quiet discipline of care.

I dedicate 2025 to Larry. To the life that carried me when I could not carry myself, and to the lessons that remain. He was my family. He still is. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @melissaabel_

Last night, I found a poem my mom wrote—one I’d never seen before. Reading her words felt like a quiet moment with her, like she was still here.

Marianne was born in rural Indiana, where she played the French horn in her school’s marching band while dreaming of a bigger world. That dream brought her to Orange County, California, where she met my dad. She worked as an RN at Hoag Hospital, and later became a 4th grade teacher.

After adopting me and my sister, she would go on to earn a master’s in teaching—always choosing to give, to grow, to love deeply.

She passed away from metastatic breast cancer in 2007, but she’s never really left me. Her words, her strength, her love—they’re still here.
