The mushrooms saved her life. She’ll be the first to tell you they weren’t what saved her.

She walked out of an appointment holding a prescription and a phone number. That was the entire plan. 1 in 8 women report symptoms of depression after giving birth and more than half receive no treatment at all, so this is not a story about one unlucky patient. It’s the standard experience.

The country has spent this month arguing about what happens when maternal mental health care fails a mother. Almost none of these stories end up in a courtroom. Almost all of them end up in a kitchen at 2am with a woman deciding she’s the problem.

My guest decided she wasn’t the problem. What she did next changed her life, and then it changed the law in Washington DC.

But the part that stayed with me is what she said the real turn was. Not the medicine. Authorship. The decision that you’re allowed to run the experiment on your own life, read the results honestly, and keep going when the results say keep going.

Nobody hands you that permission. You take it.

Every summer goes by faster than the last and summer ‘26 is my favorite so far. It had a little bit of everything, the beach with friends, #lakelife with the fam, ghost sightings, fishing, tubing, food, but most importantly the opportunity to take a moment away from our day to day life and just enjoy everything. In the blink of an eye, Lola is graduating grade school and heading to middle school. I used to roll my eyes when parents said it goes by too fast, but it really, truly does.

Those late-night feedings, the panicked thermometer searches, the mountain of diapers, bottles, binkies, and blankies… what I wouldn’t give to relive it all, just to soak up every fleeting moment again.

Lola B, I’m endlessly proud of who you are becoming. This next chapter is yours, and you are so ready for it!

We found this sweet boy wandering the H Street NE neighborhood in DC with no collar last week. He is microchipped and registered to an address in Beltsville, MD, but despite multiple attempts, we haven’t been able to reach his owner.

Meet Max – about 1 year old, neutered, housebroken, and full of love. He gets along beautifully with our two dogs, is great with kids, and already knows some basic commands. He’s incredibly gentle and clearly has lived in a home before.

We would love to keep him, but with two dogs already, we simply don’t have the space. Max deserves a stable, loving home – and he’ll make an amazing companion.
