Curly Hair Routine ✨

Took me about 36 years…
Me and my curls have had a love-hate historyyyyy. 😂

I grew up with this hair — hair I had no idea how to maintain, brush, or style. Most of my childhood, I remember having little fros. Curls that would turn into locks because I wouldn’t let anyone (except Janice) brush my hair.

My products? Alberto Mousse and Gel. That was it. 😂

Then one day, my older sister asked me to iron her hair with a clothing iron on an ironing board. I thought, “This is it. I just want straight hair.” How easy it seemed to have straight hair.

So I burnt my hair. Broke my hair. And the minute it rained or got humid, it curled right back up. It even stopped me from swimming in the summer — my favourite. It wasn’t all that.

AND THEN… I discovered straight perms.

I cried until my mom finally agreed to pay $600 in 2002. It didn’t fully work, so I went back the next day for a second treatment.

Well… it worked. 😅

My hair was straight — and a LOT of it broke off.

Eventually, my curly hair started growing back while the rest was still straight. 😂 A total disaster. My hair was never quite the same after that. I mainly wore it in buns and ponytails.

Looking back, I wish I could go back to that little girl and tell her how lucky she was to have this hair.

I’d show her how to love it. How to care for it. How to style it.

Because after 36 years, I’m finally learning to do just that. 🤎✨
