01 Nov 2026 - NYC Marathon Day and Maddy Nakada is back again!! Despite a nosebleed at around mile 20, she finished the race 24 minutes after the female winner and just two minutes shy of last year’s run - 2:48:28 Well done @maddynakada - we are so, so proud of you. #hardcore #newyorkcitymarathon #marathon by @mellija
28 Oct 2026 - It’s a bit rare for me to be wowed by an entire evening at the ballet. Sure, there have been many moment’s of effusive and moving joy. But when there’s three pieces being done in a single evening, I usually only truly enjoy one of them. Last night was an exception, starting with a new choreographer to ABT’s main stage - Brady Farrar. His Trio Elegiaque to Rachmaninov’s music of the same name, was poignantly and beautifully casted. I particularly loved newly promoted principal dancer, SunMi Park ( @psm_59 ). There’s just something so captivating in the way she feels the music with the tilt of her head and the fullness of extensions with her arms through her fingers. There were a few moments of stilted choreography, almost simplistic in the movement and shapes. But I found the overall piece deeply moving. I also felt the costumes were perfect counterpoints to the dancing, particularly for a fall premiere. It didn’t hurt that one of the dancers was my fave, Devon Teuscher. (@devon.teusch ) The second piece was Flight, choreographed by Jae Man Joo and performed by the soon departing, Herman Cornejo, (@hermancornejo ) set to the music of Bach. Herman embodied the passion, desperation, and momentum of Bach, particularly with his Cello Suite No 1 in G major, as beautifully performed by Jonathan Spitz. The final piece was Frederick Ashton’s The Dream, a one act of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, set to the music of Mendelssohn. I was fortunate enough to be seated near the orchestra, including the choristers, which added to my enjoyment of the performance. Cate Hurlin (@catehurlin ) and Daniel Camargo (@camargosart )charmingly danced the roles of Titania and Oberlin. Daniel’s facial expressions were aptly comical throughout his performance, facial expressions being something I rarely notice due to my attention on the dancing. Jake Roxander (@jakeroxander ) wowed the crowd with his many turns and sky high jumps and Puckish mischievousness. And the two couples (Hermia, Lysander, Helena, and Demetrius) claimed numerous giggles from the audience with the dancers’ antics. Bravo ABT for another wonderful season and night at the Ballet. 🩰❤️ by @mellija
10 Oct 2026 - To those who need a bit of cheer, here’s an adorable chipmunk (photo) to brighten your day. You’re welcome! 🐿️🙌❤️ by @mellija
10 Oct 2026 - The Northern Parula is probably my favorite warbler (though my favorite warbler seems to change every migration season!). I love the striking colors of this bird - blue and yellow with a bit of olive in between. But yellow and black with a hint of chestnut or white also shine brightly amongst the turning autumn leaves as exemplified by the Magnolia warbler, Cape May Warbler, Kinglet, and Goldfinch. Not to be outdone for beautiful fall colors is the Black, Chestnut, and White of the Eastern Towhee. Also shown here: Song Sparrow, Swainson’s Thrush, Northern Cardinal, Eastern Phoebe, and the Chipping Sparrow I do love me a good fall migration in Central Park. ❤️ by @mellija
10 Oct 2026 - What a glorious day of birding in Central Park, taking in the fall warbler migration while welcoming in some fall favorites. Shown here: Cape May Warblers, Northern Parula, Kinglets, Goldfinches, Magnolia Warbler, Eastern Phoebe, Black and White Warbler, Red Tailed Hawk, Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker, Eastern Towhee, Song Sparrow, Field Sparrow #centralParkBirding #fallBirding #birdmigration by @mellija
03 Oct 2026 - I think I’m slowly migrating towards fall as being my favorite bird season (get it? 😁). Though the warblers are harder to spot and their outfits are a bit less colorful, there’s just a larger variety of birds about between the thrushes, the hummingbirds, and the tanagers and the warblers and the phoebes and the raptors (none shown here today….). What a wonderful way to spend this Saturday - birding in @centralparknyc by @mellija
05 Sept 2026 - D and I spotted this pair of Scarlet Tanagers (as identified by birding legend @divine_photography_nyc ) as we searched for fall migrating birds in the Loch. It was such a lovely sight as we watched them swoop in and out of the leaves, hunting for berries and insects. ❤️ by @mellija
29 Aug 2026 - end of summer in Central Park brings back the Great Blue Heron (two different juveniles shown here) and the migrating warblers - B&W, Canada, and Chestnut Sided shown here, maybe a worm eater as well (??), with a female cardinal shown in between A shout out to @f.r.cohen for sharing his spot of the juvenile great blue heron sleeping by the Pool. by @mellija
23 Aug 2026 - finally spotted the malting male wood duck that many of my fellow birder photographers had seen swimming around the Pool and Loch up at the northern end of Central Park. He’s pictured here, amidst, the duck weed with a female mallard. 🦆🙌👍 by @mellija
D and I took a moment to take in Banksy’s Blinded by the Flag plinth along Waterloo Place, St. James’s on our way to dinner at Fallow. 🙌👍 by @mellija
13 years later and you’re still the only one I want to dance with at the end of every night. Happy Anniversary my love. 🥂💃🕺❤️ by @mellija
