I had pretty low expectations for the Yoko Ono retrospective at The Broad, and was astonished to be so deeply touched by it. Much of the work is simply beautiful, although that's not what she's aiming for. It was definitely ahead of its time. The concepts were often incisive. But what really got to me was the inclusiveness. She treats everyone as an artist, and the people who attended yesterday responded with so much joy!!! They grabbed magic markers, sticks of graphite or hammers and nails and thoughtfully, caringly made their marks. It was as if they had been waiting forever to be given permission, to be told that they have just as much right as the next person to make art, and their joy and release and commitment were infectious and incredibly inspiring. They wanted to create; they wanted to believe...and that gave me hope. @melliska @hl5hl5 @thebroadmuseum @yokoono #lavivadiamond by @melliska
