James and I truly had one of the best trips to date reconnecting here, learning to “fly” on the flight simulator and enjoying a sunset hike like we were the only people on Earth.

Praised by Jane Goodall herself, visiting @chimphaven has been on the top of my list for years. Getting to see the incredible care that goes into making these animals’ lives the best they can be was incredibly inspiring.

Most of the chimpanzees at Chimp Haven spent decades in biomedical research facilities in the United States.

Starting in the 50s and 60s, chimpanzees in the U.S. were used in the NASA space program, and in the 70s and beyond hundreds were used in infectious disease research. It wasn’t until 2000 when the Chimp Act was passed establishing a sanctuary system for retired research chimpanzees.

For nearly 300 chimpanzees Chimp Haven offers 200 acres of forested space, healthy meals, medical care, daily enrichment and freedom for how they choose to spend their retirement.

@concertdome is Austin’s version of the sphere and I’m obsessed with it! The first time we went was for Dome of The Dead ~ their Halloween tribute and I was blown away!

With only 100 seats you get to experience an inimate evening of live music from a string quartet and full immersion with 360 degree visuals inside a 52 foot geodesic dome.

I felt like a Victorian country queen at this unique stay in Colorado! 💅🏻

This 6 room mountain boutique hotel in Westcliffe, Colorado (2 hours from Colorado Springs) is just steps from downtown with the Sangre de Cristo Mountains serving as the backdrop of your entire stay.

Each suite is named after nearby 14ers to honor the owner’s unique story.

The Crestone Suite where we stayed features:

✨ a pressed-tin ceiling
☕️ private kitchenette
🛋️ velvet sofa
🛏️ king bed
🛁 private bathroom with a clawfoot tub

It was truly so lovely. 🥹

The current married owners are so cool with Dan being a record holder for completing all 58 14ers in Colorado in just 14 days 17 hours and 33 minutes and Kelsey being a true mastermind of design and reno. She saved that pink tub and countless other original items in the hotel!

An injury training for the 14ers forced Dan to be in Westcliffe and he fell in love with the town and discovered the Wolff Building, the first hotel in Westcliffe. It took about a year and a half for them to bring the building back to life while restoring its original character.
