Had so much fun crushing 37 miles today at the @applecidercentury with 3 of my favorite ladies. Hoping they bring back the New Buffalo portion of the ride next year because seeing the lake is always my favorite part. Instead, they traded the lake for 15 miles of hills and that was WORK! But we made it! by @melmanning10

After my Ironman 70.3 in June I pulled back to let my body recover. With some fall marathons coming up, I decided to sign up for a close half marathon to see how much work I would need to do to prepare. Had a great half run at the Lake County Half this morning and am feeling much better about my chances of finishing the Detroit Marathon in 7 weeks! by @melmanning10

As I get closer to the end of my chapter of full time parenting, I refuse to believe I’m also reaching the end of the fun portion of life. That I’m headed for the decline. I have many exciting chapters left to write in this book of me and to prove it to myself, I booked a trip to NYC with my friend Agnese @orsosrestaurant to take Peloton live classes as we both are huge fans of the platform. We flew in on Wednesday at 11 am and went straight to take a private lesson at The Ness to see what trampolining is all about. It was a tough class between bouncing and sculpting, but a ton of fun. Then we rested up and went to see Oh Mary that night. Raunchy and hilarious. This morning, we were at Peloton at 6:30 am for a 45 minute Progressive run with @mattwilpers . One of my fave coaches. And an hour and a half later I was in a strength stack with @andyspeer . The first full body 30 minutes was heavy metal and the 10 minutes arms & shoulder add on was music by Dolly Parton or her close friends. It was a great workout and he was so nice! This getaway was so much fun and reminded me I have a lot of adventures left. Now off to LGA and home! by @melmanning10

Keeping up the fitness even on vacation. Yesterday, we did a running highlights tour of Montreal with @run_with_alan_in_montreal and @gorunningtours. It was such a great way to learn about the city while getting our sweat on. Today, the girls joined me at @f45_training_griffintown to get our strength in. Coach Susan was great at making us feel right at home. Off to take a bagel making class and climb Mount Royal! by @melmanning10

Caffeinating up and soaking in the view before embarking on the last day of our a 3 day 2 night hut to hut hike in northern Quebec. Next time my kids are confronted with something challenging I think they can look back at day 2 of this hike and say if I can get through that I can get through anything. First day was a hot but doable 4.5 miles. Elevation was real though - 1450 feet gain. But we made it to Cap de Gribane before the rain hit. No electricity or indoor plumbing (think smelly pit toilets), but we made adventure meals for dinner and played squeak and go fish and answered trivia questions until it got dark. Quotes from the first day included: “Where is this hut, Bro” Finn about an hour and a half into the first day. “It’s nice to know that wherever you go, penis is the universal language.” Dad noting that a penis had been carved into the stairs of the first hut. The next day was an early start to try to beat the rain. We succeeded for the first 5.2 miles. As we were resting at a refuge and eating our snack pack, the rain started. The next two miles were a doable drizzle. The last two were a downpour. The trail turned to a river and we were scrambling up a mountain trying not to slip on rocks or mud. I just kept telling myself what my friend Kristin Strom told me - you’re not made of sugar, you won’t melt. Finally Cap du Salut was in sight. But there was smoke coming out of the chimney. Meaning we’d be sharing the sleeping space. Thankfully it was a nice woman from Montreal and having a hot stove meant our shoes had a chance to dry overnight. And our new friend told us all about the whales we’d be seeing in Tadoussac. We slept pretty well on the floor in sleeping bags with blow up pillows. And the last hike was a pleasant 5 miles of sunshine and gentle hills. I’ve always wanted to do a hut to hut adventure and I’m proud of my kids for embracing it. by @melmanning10

It took me 2 years and 2 attempts (and a lot of questioning myself) but it was all worth it! It was raining as I made my way to Rockford at 5 am on Sunday and I worried it would make the roads slick for the bike ride. But it didn’t. In fact all it did was help the current for the swim! I swam 1.2 miles in 36 minutes. That’s 20 minutes faster than last time. I have gotten a little better swimming but not that much faster. The first 30 miles of the bike was against a headwind and was tough. My speed was not what it needed to be and I lost some of the extra time I had gained from the swim. I was getting a bit concerned that I would once again miss the second cutoff, but the volunteer at the mile 30 SAG stop reassured us that we were about to turn a corner and the wind would be in our favor for the last 26. I didn’t really believe him … but he was very right. I biked the fastest splits I had ever biked (even with some steep hills) and put myself in a solid spot for the run. First 6 miles of the run I was feeling super strong. Mostly buoyed by the fact that a medal was within reach. The second 6.5 mile loop got harder mentally. I was so tired and ready to be done. But I refused to walk. Even as my jog slowed to a trot, I kept my forward pace. With 3/4 of a mile left, I ran past my tri coaches @gritendurance (for the fourth time) and they once again boosted my spirits. And then I finally saw the finish line. The one I’ve been envisioning since I started this journey 2 years ago! To say the Ironman is a mental game is an understatement. There were so many times both before and during the race that I wanted to quit. But I wouldn’t let myself. And I’m so freaking proud I didn’t. Maybe a full when I’m 50? Turns out anything IS possible! by @melmanning10
