Given I work for myself, besides the occasional nice review ( thanks @rmihna ), I must self promote. So here it is! My background includes yoga (500 hours certified) plus many more continuing educational courses), Mobility Specialist in Functional Range, and LMT (including Myofascial Release). I teach public classes (Functional Movement), private one on one sessions, offer massage and have assisted in many teacher trainings and offered my own continuing educational workshops for teacherā€™s through the years - going on 15 years! I always look at a client through a whole lens perspective. If you have a shoulder issue, I will look at your ribcage, your pelvis, your breathing, etc. No one problem is isolated. I might not always have the answers, but I will guide and support you to the best of my ability! Be on the lookout for Black Friday special starting next week! by @melmassage23
Functional Movement Classes for November Revisiting the Ribcage - Layering in the Lats and Ribcage Mobility If people wonder what areas of the body can make the most overall impact - we need to talk about the ribcage. Ribcage and Upper Back mobility improves breathing, core, human movement, neck and shoulder tension, posture...so many things! This monthā€™s classes will circle back to more focused work in this region. However, this time I will be layering in movements to quiet down the bossy lattisimus dorsi (big back muscle) and engage in exercises to reduce potential rib flares. Rib flares are a change in shape of the lower ribs. They can have a huge impact on the breath, core stability, and posture and the Lats play a big part in this structural change. We want BACK BODY EXPANSION with our breathing and posture. Close the front and open the back. Class will entail: *Two new breathing techniques that I LOVE. One helped me immensely with some Diaphragm tightness. We focus on creating posterior and lateral expansion of the rib cage using a ball or towel and follow this up with a wall roll down exercise. So good! *Spinal and Ribcage Mobility while stabilizing the Hips. *Positions to quiet down the LATS while activating other muscles around the ribcage and shoulder blades. *Taking the work vertical! *Winding down with a Myofascial Release Stretch for T8/T9 - lower Thoracic Spine Join me in exploring these techniques that help train for our everyday movements and other exercise modalities! Dates: Saturday, November 16 at 10am Tuesday, November 19 at 6pm Overflow class - only if needed and I have the other classes full - Friday, December 1 at 10am. Please email me to reserve your spot - you will pay AFTER I confirm there is space available. Cost is $25. These classes are Small Group Classes - 4 people MAX. Location - Jade Massotherapy on Lorain Rd in Fairview Park by @melmassage23
Pesky Hammies? Donā€™t feel connected to your center? Letā€™s continue the conversation on how the body is all connected. The Hamstrings and Core will be the focus for October classes. You may have not connected these two areas but they are very much linked together. Hamstrings might feel tight all the time because of.....compensation! A weak core and turned off gluteal region make those hamstrings work overtime. An active muscle is different than a strong muscle. An active muscle is a neurological issue where the muscles holds onto a lot of tension - all the time - even when sleeping. Itā€™s hyperactive and doesnā€™t know how to let go. On the other end of the spectrum - maybe the hamstrings are underused, weak and ā€œoff the gridā€. This is also a neurological issue. Where joints can (and should) work in isolation, muscles do not work alone. My classes tackle both of these areas - isolating joints then creating multi joint movements and improving balanced muscle function. Class Sequence for Hamstrings and Core: -Release of Hamstrings with the Yoga Tune Up Ball - sensory information -360 breathing with Hamstring activation -Side lying Hip Shift - tying in some Glute and Adductor activation - muscles work as a team! -Series of Hamstring and Core exercises -Wind down with a Myofascial Release exercise for L5/S1 and Restorative Class Dates and Times: Saturday, October 19 - 10am - 3 spots open Tuesday, October 22 - 6pm - 3 spots open Both classes are 75 minutes long Please email me to reserve your spot! $25 Donā€™t wait - last monthā€™s classes filled up! As we start a new season, I am shifting the format of my classes. Small group classes - Max 4 people - more attention to your own personal needs. We do not have to live in a constant state of pain and discomfort. My classes highlight layering movements. Actually, it is more about first peeling away the layers, then rebuilding. As we work one exercise, it might highlight another area that also needs to be addressed. This is why consistency is key, developing your sensory skills are important and when a lightbulb goes off, allow that to fuel your curiosity to keep going. Class Details: Understanding the Hip Shift - An Exploration of our Pelvis and Hips Saturday, September 21 - 10am Tuesday, September 24- 6pm Both classes are 75 minutes long and the cost is $25. Location - Jade Massotherapy in Fairview Park on Lorain Road @jademassotherapy As space is very limited - please contact me via email at melissar2323@gmail.com to reserve a slot - I will then send you a link to pay. by @melmassage23
New Offering! Sale until Friday! Myofascial Release - MFR Myofascial release therapy was developed by John F Barnes to specifically address the fascia, the connective tissue that runs like a three-dimensional web throughout the body. MFR involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into restricted areas to eliminate pain and to stretch and loosen the fascia with the goal being to restore motion. You may purchase a single session: - 60 minute ($70) - 75 minute ($80) - 90 minute ($100). Prices will increase after this sale. Conditions: ā€¢The 3 pack prices are not an option for this offer. ā€¢ If you would like to buy more than one MFR session, you will have to buy each one individually. ā€¢Purchases will be good for one year. If you are a client that buys 3 packs and would like to have regular massages on hand, please email me at melissar2323@gmail.com and I will prorate two massages for you. We can do everything in one transaction, so email me before you buy anything. Here is the link to purchase: https://melissarussoyogaandmassage.com/massage/ I find that this technique works well with trigger point therapy and joint movement, so the more time I have the better as this work needs to be done at a slow pace. We may find that specific areas of the body will take the full 60 minutes. Photo credit @jbendaali by @melmassage23
New Class Alert! Spinal Segmentation with Somatic Spirals This class is all about slow, grounded, mindful work. Unwind tension in the abdomen and spine. Strengthen your ā€œfeeling senseā€. What are Spinal Segmentations? The ability to move each segment independent of the others ( like a link in a chain). The brain should have awareness of what is going on in each piece. We must rewire first and that can take some time. A segment that is not moving well (or at all) will make the segments above or below it work harder causing those moveable segments to get overloaded. Class Sequence: -Breathwork and warm up -Spinal Segmentations - Cat/Cow variations along with lateral flexion (side bending) and rotation -Differentiating/Isolating the movements listed above -Spinal Stability - Core Work - Floor based Somatic Spirals - Savasana What is Somatic Movement? The word soma means ā€œthe body as perceived from within.ā€ Somatic movement is a movement thatā€™s practiced consciously with the intention of focusing on the internal experience of the movement rather than the external appearance or the end result of the movement. Some other defining qualities of somatic movement is that itā€™s exploratory and that itā€™s typically practiced very slowly. The human nervous system, which controls our muscle tension, posture, and movement, must learn new things very slowly. This applies to how we learn all new things. Location - Jade Massotherapy - Fairview Park Date - Sunday, May 19 at 10:30am - 75 minute class Pre-registration is required - Space is limited!
