But aside from being in the industry since the tender age of 14, and being absolutely obsessed with everything hair , hair extensions and Hairloss , I’m best known for the name “ Mummy “ to my 2 little baby girls Indie & Koda . It’s hard out here, babies! 🤎 Lately I’ve seen a HUGE influx of people launching their own hair extension wholesale brands, and I’m here to tell you… 100% chase your dreams! But there’s a lot I DIDN’T know when I started that I definitely know now 🙈 The stock? 👇 To have a proper colour and length range, sell consistently and keep your bestsellers available, you need some serious money sitting on those shelves. For me, that’s been upwards of $500k AUD in stock. And I’ve found that’s the MINIMUM to have the variety and stock levels I need to actually GROW 😅 The team? Sales manager, support manager, marketing coordinator, content & influencer manager, graphic designer, pick & packer… and the list keeps growing. The taxes and fees? 😭 Import costs, duties, GST and all the other expenses that add up along the way. Once everything is accounted for, the profit can sometimes be less than $20 a packet. And if you don’t properly understand your numbers, you can be selling plenty of hair and barely making anything. I started out selling hair for HALF of what I charge now because I honestly had no idea what my real costs were 🙈 And the list goes ON AND ON. I love what I’ve built, but there’s so much behind the scenes that you don’t see when you’re dreaming about starting your own brand. What does it really take—and cost—to scale a hair extension business? Some lessons you learn along the way… but I wish someone had shared more of the realities with me before I started 🤎 Have you been thinking about this as your next career move?
