Taking a little break from painting clouds to revisit my forest waters. 🌿

I recently finished a new commission that feels right at home among my other water paintings. I love the dappled light dancing across the water and the loose, impressionistic way this piece came together. There’s something so beautiful about capturing those fleeting moments of light and reflection.

“A Certain Kind of Quiet” 16”x24” oil on canvas

Low fast moving clouds that sweep shadows across the land. The crispness that settles into the autumn air, and freshly cut fields stretching the horizons. There is something about this season. The urgency of harvest beneath a restless sky. Everyone working together against weather and daylight. I’m always quietly cheering the farmers on. Hoping the weather holds, the combines keep rolling, the crops make it safely in the bins. There’s a certain kind of quiet that comes when the work is finished. A big exhale. 30”x48” Transfixed, oil on canvas.

This painting came from an evening I went along with my husband while he worked late doing beaver management and dam control. Sometimes, in the busiest seasons of life, a date night is simply choosing to be beside your person while they work. I stood out on the dam in the middle of the water while he worked, and everywhere I turned there was something extraordinary.

A storm was moving around us, enormous clouds filling the sky while the last warm light slipped underneath them. The water caught pieces of it all. I remember standing there trying to take in the entire 360-degree view and feeling completely transfixed — by the power of the storm, by the beauty of the land, and by how incredibly blessed we are to witness it.

My husband works very hard, often in places and at hours most people never see. And I’ve realized there is a quiet reward in that. He is constantly encountering things that would be so easy to overlook — a sky changing over a beaver dam, light breaking at the end of a long day, wild places with no one else around to see them.

I came along that evening because he had work to do, I came home with more paintings in my head than I could possibly paint.

Transfixed is one of them.

Ended Art Now with Gathered Gold finding a home.

This painting came from a morning spent out with my husband while he was hunting — one of those ordinary prairie mornings that caught the light just right and stayed with me.

So happy this one found its person this weekend.

Here is individual looks at the pieces I created this last month. I’ll post them one by one. This one is called Take Heart, and it’s 12”x12”. I called it Take Heart because I loved that the light wasn’t coming from a perfectly clear sky. There’s still all this weight and drama in the clouds, but the light is breaking through anyway. To me it has that feeling of being reminded to take heart before everything has necessarily cleared.

6 pieces I worked on for the Art Now Saskatoon Fine art Fair. I was presented in the new emerging stART artist category with the Assiniboia Gallery. A couples months of paintings cut down into less than a minute display but here you go. All of these landscapes are from my rural location, nearby places I’m constantly in awe of the beauty of this land.

The ArtNow Fine art Fair is happening this Friday Oct 2-4 in Saskatoon! What can you expect from my collection at Art Now?

Big skies. Prairie light. Weather moving across open land. Quiet water, harvest fields, and those fleeting moments when an ordinary landscape suddenly asks you to stop and look.

These six oil paintings are rooted in the Saskatchewan landscape I know and love — the enormity of a sky over a small stretch of earth, changing light across the fields, reflections on still water, and the beauty found in familiar places.

Some of the pieces are expansive, some intimate. Some are quiet, while others carry a little more drama. Together, they hold so much of what I love about painting the prairies: light, atmosphere, distance, weather, and a sense of stillness.

If you’ve been wanting to begin collecting my work, I’ve just added a selection of smaller original paintings to my website — little pieces of the Saskatchewan prairie, made for bringing home. 🤍

This one is ‘Ere the Last Light.’ 8”x10” oil on wood panel

Moody and luminous all at once, it was inspired by an evening drive home with my husband. We had just crossed the Petrofka Bridge when the clouds parted and the last light spilled through, casting the most beautiful peachy glow across the water below.

It was one of those fleeting prairie moments that makes you want to stop and hold onto it a little longer.
