This is MY ultimate niche (aside from music integrated therapy) and I’ve yet to see anyone do some of the things that I do for non-verbal language.

I usually post a lot of things you can do with younger kids, but I’ve been doing this with my second grade group recently and it’s a hit!

I thought you may enjoy ☺️ one little game you can play to work on non-verbal language at home.

80% of our communication is non-verbal. Many kiddos on the spectrum and even older autistic teens miss out on social cues. This is an excellent starting place to get them to notice the nuances of non-verbal communication .

You can later add in using facial expressions when you are excited you got a match! Remember make it BIG and exaggerate it! Make it stand out! Sad because you didn’t get a match 😢!

Try this at home and let me know how it went for you. It takes kids a little while to really get that there is no verbal communication.

Why did I become a Speech-Language Pathologist? 💜🎶 Jennifer Nuccio-Smith,
Speech-Language Pathologist and mom of an autistic son, shares the personal story behind her journey into the field of speech-language pathology and how her son’s unique way of communicating helped shape the SLP she is today.
What began as a journey to better understand and connect with her own child eventually became a passion for helping other children find their own ways to communicate.
Along the way, music became an important part of that journey. Rhythm, repetition, movement, and melody weren’t just fun; they created opportunities for connection, engagement, and communication.
Ultimately, those experiences inspired Melody in Motion Communication & Developmental Services.
