Hasn’t been an easy road to 36, but I’m grateful for the moments of joy I’ve been able to experience lately. It’s been difficult to feel celebratory around this bday or generally take up space for myself, but I am lucky to have the best people around me who make me feel special 💕 (Also shoutout to the women at the karaoke bar who told me I look 26.) by @melodythelamb

Two weeks in the hospital ✅
Six weeks in rehab ✅

Tomorrow, Joe is finally going home and we could not be more excited. He’ll be starting outpatient rehab soon so the work doesn’t stop here; just another chapter on his journey of recovery. But the amount of progress already made has been nothing short of incredible, not that I ever doubted Joe or his sheer will and determination. He’s aced every test and assessment and I can’t wait to see more improvements in the days/weeks/months to come.

These past two months have been a challenge, but we’ve managed to find balance, strength and precious moments of joy. None of that would’ve been possible without the help and support of the kind staff at Toronto Rehab Institute. Their encouragement and patience allowed us to find our footing and created a great sense of comfort when we both needed it the most. I want to thank all our friends and family, and even folks I hadn’t spoken to in years or haven’t done the best job at keeping in touch with. Every kind word we’ve received has been greatly appreciated, and we are even more indebted to anyone who has helped provide a meal, advice or just kept us company through it all. The world can rightfully feel like shit sometimes, but it’s warmed my heart so much to see that goodness still exists and that community is a life saver.

Here’s hoping we can see some of you IRL this summer, whether that’s on (accessible) patios or at our place (someone needs to come and use our BBQ pls). 💕💕💕 by @melodythelamb

Joe and I often joke that his primary job is to take care of me. Never the other way around. He’s not one to ask for help or even admit when he’s down with a cold. His self-sufficiency is something I’ve always admired and sometimes relied on too much. But now it’s my turn to take care of him.

Three weeks ago, Joe had a rupture in his brain which caused him to have a stroke. We are beyond grateful to the folks at Hone Fitness who called paramedics immediately and to everyone at Toronto Western Hospital for taking care of us throughout this entire journey.

This week, Joe moved to a rehab facility to continue his recovery. It will take some time and lots of work, but we’re both ready and committed. We’re also eternally thankful to all our friends and family who have supported us, from providing us food to giving me a crash course on insulin pumps. Someone said “don’t ever question if you and Joe are loved.” We definitely feel it all ❤️ by @melodythelamb
