POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

oh the melodies... 🤍✨ @melodiesxmel by @melyssaford

I had to take a moment to thank @waltercollection for my beautiful dress.

I wanted class & sophistication; that’s the ONLY direction I gave my stylist @daniellepremone

She brought this and other options to the house… I didn’t even open the garment bags to the other options.

This had me at “Hello” 🤭

Never in a million years did I imagine that this sit-down with @malcolmjamalwar would be one of his final interviews.

In our conversation, I asked him about his legacy. In his own words, he said, “I will be able to leave this earth knowing—and people knowing—that I was a good person.”

Job well done, Malcolm. You were more than a good person. You were light, truth, and grace.

Day 36 of 50 Days to 50:

The concept of Integrity was on my mind.

One thing I say often is “Integrity has left me broke more times than I can count.”

In this particular industry, there is so much that crosses your path; so much nefarious sh*t your head would spin.

And on so many levels too.

This is an industry where you better know what your non-negotiables are, because you will be approached and tested regularly.

I’ve literally watched people sell themselves for what they considered fame and money.

Hey, whatever helps you sleep at night.

Integrity is interesting because it involves decisions that are mostly made when no one is looking or in the dark. It’s YOU judging YOU.

It made me wonder, if you’d care to share: what’s a decision you’ve made based solely on your sense of Integrity?

Day 35 of 50 days to 50:

When is the last time you had a ‘full circle moment’?

A full circle moment is when a journey, struggle, or story returns to where it began, but you’ve changed in the meantime. The place or situation is familiar. You’re not.

When I left my hometown of Toronto on Sept 11, 2000 (a year to THE DAY the towers came down!) I left with 2 suitcases, a one way plane ticket and $25 dollars in my pocket.

I figured I was young enough that, if moving to the U.S. was a mistake, I could course correct in a few months and all would be well.

I had a safety net back home; I was still enrolled in University and could always go home to Mom.

But the SECOND I landed at LaGuardia Airport I KNEW I wasn’t leaving. And boy, what a life I created for myself here.

Fast forward 26 years.

I’m asked to be the keynote speaker at the @blaxpo conference, a conference that is home to entrepreneurs, founders, investors and all forms of creative mediums.

I am a proud Canadian and Torontonian. And my hometown showed up for me. It was an incredible experience that I’ll never forget and I’m forever grateful to the @blaxpo founders and family ✨✨

Man… it was good to be home. Tdot, STAND UP! 🇨🇦

Day 34 of 50 Days to 50:

The gym really ain’t about vanity. Sure, it feels good to look good, whether you’re in clothes or your birthday suit

But, as you get older, the gym become about LIFE and LONGEVITY.

Not only to we lose muscle mass (which protects our skeletal system) but we lose flexibility and mobility as we age.

I don’t know about y’all but I plan on staying active my entire life, God willing.

Women are at a much greater risk of Osteoporosis, because of our loss of estrogen. And if that results in, say, breaking a hip… our risk of mortality increases by at least 20%.

Train like your life depends on it, ladies. Because it does. ❤️❤️❤️❤️#50daysto50 #fyp #aginggracefully #explorepages

Is strength training a part of your regular routine? It needs to be. by @melyssaford

Day 33 of 50 Days to 50:

Outgrowing people. It’s bound to happen to all of us at some point in our lives.

It’s one of the most difficult things to maneuver; how do you share with someone who was once close that there is a lack of alignment in the relationship and you’re both moving in different directions?

We, as humans, tend to hate discomfort and having tough conversations are definitely included in that.

We’re all searching for our purpose in life; what will make our lives meaningful. For me, my purpose is to learn and love, grow and evolve. Constantly. When I go back to Source, I want to feel like I didn’t leave anything on the table.

And with those goals and values, I’ve had to leave people and situations behind. They couldn’t come with me. And that’s ok.

How have you handled outgrowing people in your life?? Comment below ⬇️ by @melyssaford

Day 32 of 50 Days to 50:

The dichotomy of the words chosen for the two headlines is sinister. Plain and Simple.

One positions it as a personal choice and sense of autonomy and agency. The photo chosen is bold and confident. It’s conveying a very specific message.

The second headline, while I acknowledge it’s click bait, is antagonistic at its core. It’s inviting criticism and negative feedback. Because how DARE a woman approaching 50 years of age have *gasp* standards????????

Asking for too much? So, let me get this straight, requiring that a partner be on a healing journey, treat me and the life I’ve created for myself with respect and not bring chaos or anxiety to my doorstep is TOO MUCH?

Nowhere in my reasons did I mention external preferences; I didn’t say “he has to be 6 feet with 6 figures” blah blah blah. I simply said I’m looking for emotional maturity and intelligence and someone who values being healed and has a positive outlook on life.

But apparently a woman approaching 50 who dares to have standards is equivalent to selling babies on the black market.

To the men who got it, 🫡🫡🫡

But a lot of you guys revealed yourselves in the comments. Your LANGUAGE choices were so violent and a lot of women saw that. And you wonder why we question feeling safe?

My choices have NOTHING to do with anyone else’s. I am not telling women to stay single. I am not telling young women to avoid marriage and kids. I want people to live the lives they want and find their own sense of MEANING.

If you hoped by berating me that I’d feel shame or embarrassment or I’d disappear into the shadows, all I gotta say is: “You know Nothing, John Snow.”

Day 31 of 50 Days to 50:

So my reel on Day 28 of 50 days to 50 caused quite a kerfuffle!!! 😆😆😆😆

Opened up quite a lot of dialogue, some of it healthy, some it not.

So, I thought I’d give a response to the ones who took the opportunity to throw pot shots at me:

You cannot shame me for getting older. I am privileged to see another birthday. I celebrate my life daily.

I am healthy and can probably outperform the majority of you in the gym who had with something negative to say.

The alternative to getting older is DEATH and I ain’t ready yet. So save your wack ass projection. It doesn’t work and I find it laughable and weak.

I also can’t be shamed for having standards.

I know it’s hard for some of you to believe that a seasoned woman can have the audacity to have standards, like she’s supposed to be happy with anything that gets thrown her way but you would be incorrect.

The older I get, the more I sink into being unapologetic about my choices. All my life choices led me here and I LIKE and LOVE myself. Even my bad decisions led me to become the person I am today.

I am a Pro Aging Advocate: I advocate for EVERYONE to face their older years with dignity, excitement and exuberance. I promote how to maintain your health during those years.

You should probably save your criticism and take a page out of my book. You might learn something ❤️
