A quiet presence within it all
*
A final goodbye
*
A story of touch and how it exists and at times it doesn't exist. Sacred times of interconnectedness

*We went to visit Paul and his wife and were immediately told that he returned from the hospital and now on Hospice. I sat down in the living room when we suddenly heard Odiee with a strange muted bark, he was ultimately trying to get our attention- he had never gone into their bedroom until this day and wanted to lie down beside Paul but couldn't find a way up. I asked Paul if he could join him and smiled slightly and said "you bet" - he never opened his eyes but the heaviness of his hand found Odiee and they both went to sleep. Breathing in sync and providing a gentle warmth. I could tell that he had only a few days of life left to live and I truly believe Odiee did as well as he didn't want to leave even hours later.
We got the call, went to the services and the next week went back to see his wife. Odiee immediately checked the bedroom but Paul was gone. He then went right over to Paul's favorite chair and settled in with all the comfortable scents. No physical touch between beings but rather from the more complex aspects of touch in an emotional way emitting safety.
A symbiotic relationship that will be forever in my heart. And his. ❤️ by @melz821

A quiet presence within it all.

A story of touch...
Touch is a connective fiber, our skin is the first boundary that separates us from everything else in the external world. Touch in its many forms allows us to break down the boundaries and join another in a very special kind of closeness. It comes from us allowing ourselves to cross into a sacred place - where the exchanges become an intimate, silent conversation.
The phrase "holding you in the cup of my hand" is a metaphor for complete protection, intimate care, and divine security. Essentially, it means you are in a safe, cherished, and guarded place.

This simple image spoke to me of harmony, of a relationship that I realized is not mine to hold, but theirs. ❤️ by @melz821

A quiet presence within it all.
The story of Touch....

A final goodbye and a love story ❤️❤️
Some stories take me a while to compile and write. It seems like if I do, then the images I hold so sacred somehow change.
I met this remarkable couple, married 73 years, at the same time Odiee began his journey into caregiver at 12 weeks and 2 pounds. I watched his relationship with Paul - immediately connecting to one another and their interactions always on his lap. This is more rare than not as the space and movement of wheelchairs can be disconcerting - as he grew, so did their relationship. Regardless of his size, he always managed to get up into his lap. At first, I wasn't sure why he chose this position - he is always moving to the place where he senses the need, the need for warmth, a soft pressure, and his breathing beginning to regulate theirs. They had lost their precious Daisy the year before and Odiee became an endearing surrogate. He loved simply patting him and would do so for as long as time permitted.
It was when he went onto Hospice care for advancing Prostrate Cancer, I understood Odiee's choice. When I got a call from his wife telling me that he went onto Hospice services, she asked if I could come over with Odiee as her husband wanted to see him. We spent hours there, until fatigue set in. Odiee seemed keenly aware of that, jumping off his lap and going to his bed. While on it, Shirley leaned over and said a blessing in Hebrew. This would be our last time with Paul although we didn't quite know that at the time but did expect it in different ways. Receiving a call recently from Shirley, sharing that he passed away was incredibly difficult as he had become part of our life's journey as well as his. Being in the Chapel, seeing Shirley so frail, so nervous, and the flag draped on his casket naturally brought a lot of tears to my eyes.
But, as I left, I felt an overwhelming sense of Joy that this little tiny being brought so much love to him when he needed it the most 🙏❤️ by @melz821
