December 2022. My school had a couple of projects in Europe and I really wanted to explore more of the world. Tour du ALS was one of them. There was this entry assignment that was devided in 3 assignments. I finished 2 and I was almost at, it is good, i’ve done more already than I thought, I will try next year. When a teacher said to me, I know you will going to like this a lot, just go for it. Short story. I did. I got in went to France and I felt like there was a piece of home there. The year after, ofcourse I applied again (in december), and again I got in.
February 2024.
A teacher asked if someone wanted to film at an event for the organisation of ALS. (That was all the information I got). As soon as I heard it was for someone with ALS I was like, I’ll do it. That evening I met with Anjo & Sascha. Some other producers came up to me, asking if it was possible if I could make an after-movie for Anjo & Sascha and the kids so they could rewatch it, and send it to America and maybe other countries. During the evening, while I was capturing it all I felt again this piece of home. I spoke shortly with Anjo and he said something like; Thank you for doing this, this means a lot to me.
I started editing right away because something in me said, he doesn’t have a long time, and he should see it. Within 5 days after the premiere the video was finished.
One week later I got an email that Anjo was going to say goodbye and that he would share a few minutes of his last day on the radio.
That was the start of knowing that I want to capture the memories…
Of course I am really sad that ALS takes lives, that it brings so much hurt. But I also get to see different sides, because of Anjo, Sascha, Luki (Ofcourse), Cor, Bram, Frank, Sandra, Ingur, Anneloes, Lidy, Monique, Maurice, Davy and a lot of other people... Because of these people I get to see more of the importance of capturing moments, for (their) family, friends and for education reasons.
Thank you Anjo for stirring this idea and helping it grow. We will see where it goes from now. I’ll always remember where it started!
