Finally got to see the exhibition on Kisho Kurokawa’s Nakagin Capsule Tower at MoMA. I first learned about this building when I started college and was immediately fascinated by the concept of micro living. When I visited Tokyo in 2016, I even made a special trip to see it in person. I remember it already felt somewhat dilapidated back then.

It wasn’t until today that I realized the capsules were originally designed as short-term stays for businessmen in the city center. The 3D archive shows the state of the building just before it was dismantled in 2022—many parts were run-down, and the modular, replaceable concept imagined in the ’70s never really came to life the way the architect had hoped.

Seeing the ambitious young faces of the architects in the promotional documentary from the 1970s left me with mixed emotions. Their optimism felt deeply stamped with the spirit of the Showa era. That sense of a flourishing future now feels like a moment frozen in time—archived in a museum, belonging to a past era.… taken in MoMA The Museum of Modern Art by @meng_jiang_

Drawing Tour Stop: Villa Saraceno 🇮🇹
One of Palladio’s early villas — a perfect blend of classical harmony and rustic charm.

Spending two days and a half sketching its serene proportions, sunlit façade, and timeless symmetry was like stepping into a Renaissance dream. taken in Villa Saraceno by @meng_jiang_
