AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS NOT JUST A PRIORITY โ€” ITโ€™S A NECESSITY! I strongly believe that everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home. A roof over everyoneโ€™s head should not be a privilege, but a basic necessity. As a Redmond City Councilmember and a member of ARCH (A Regional Coalition for Housing) and its Council of Elected Officials (ACE), increasing access to affordable housing is one of my biggest priorities. Recently, I had the opportunity to join an affordable housing tour organized by ARCH, visiting completed housing developments that are already making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families across our communities. It was encouraging to see how collaboration between cities, housing partners, and community organizations can turn our shared vision into reality. With a regional goal of creating 80,000 additional affordable homes by 2044, there is much more work ahead of us. Meeting the growing housing needs of our communities will require continued commitment, innovative solutions, strong partnerships, and collective action. For me, affordable housing is about much more than buildings. Itโ€™s about dignity, stability, opportunity, and giving every individual and family a foundation to thrive. I look forward to continuing this important work with ARCH and my fellow elected officials to build a future where more people can afford to live in the communities they call home. What a vibrant evening celebrating the colors, rhythm and spirit of Garba! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Celebrating Indian American Leadership in Washington State! A meaningful conversation today with Ambassador @Sripriya Ranganathan, Secretary (CPV & OIA), Government of India, along with Indian-origin elected officials from across Washington State. We discussed ideas, challenges and opportunities, not only to strengthen the bridge between India and the USA, but also how we can work together to better support our communities. One discussion especially close to my heart was around international students. Many come from humble or middle-class families with big dreams and years of family sacrifices behind them, but can face challenges with housing, finances, cultural adjustment, mental well-being and simply knowing where to turn for help. Through AmPowering, we have helped many such students with emergency needs, temporary housing, basic necessities and connections to resources. But there is so much more we can do. Government, universities, consulates, nonprofits and community organizations can work together to create a stronger support system, so no student thousands of miles away from home feels alone during a difficult time. What more can we do to better support our international students? This year, I found myself at the same table โ€” but now as a Redmond City Councilmember. A different seat, a new role, and added responsibilities, but the reason Iโ€™m here hasnโ€™t changed: to serve, to listen, and to care for our community. Some things change with time. โค๏ธ One more journey home. One more family reunited. Today, someone AmPowering has been supporting finally reached homeโ€”across seven seas, back to the safety and comfort of loved ones. Their identity and circumstances are theirs to share. Their dignity and privacy come first. Through AmPowering, we have helped many people facing homelessness, domestic violence, mental health challenges and difficult life circumstances find their way back to loved ones. But when โ€œhomeโ€ is thousands of miles away, it is never as simple as booking a flight. Sometimes it means finding family with very limited information, building trust, navigating incredibly complex situations and refusing to give upโ€”even when the journey becomes exhausting. That is when I remind myself: empathy has to become stronger than frustration. See the human being beyond the circumstances. And somehow, I have always felt a divine power working through these journeys. Perhaps we are simply instruments. When that divine force creates a path, even the impossible starts becoming possible. ๐Ÿ™ This one was especially emotional for me. While I was flying from Seattle for an important moment with my own family, I was simultaneously following another flight across the world. Two journeys. Two families. And my prayer for the other one was simple: Pleaseโ€ฆ just let them reach home. โค๏ธ Then came the message we had been waiting for: Reached home. Safe. Reunited. No testimonial, award or recognition can come close to that feeling. We would do it again. Every single time. This is why AmPowering has become my soul purposeโ€”creating bridges from vulnerability to safety, uncertainty to hope, and sometimesโ€ฆ simply back HOME. And none of this happens alone. Getting closer to the dream of Dr. Astha Soni! โค๏ธ I have no doubt that @_astha_soni_ will be a wonderful, responsible and compassionate doctor. At her White Coat Ceremony, one of the speeches really stayed with me: โ€œThe white coat may look bright, clean and perfectly pressed today, but soon it will carry responsibilities, commitments and, most importantly, HOPE.โ€ Because becoming a doctor is not just choosing a profession. It is choosing a life of service, long hours, difficult decisions, continuous learning, and being there for people during some of their most vulnerable moments. ๐Ÿ’š NAFW 2026 โ€” FASHION WITH PURPOSE ๐Ÿ’š What an incredible 9th year of North America Fashion Week! 30+ designers โ€ข 150+ models and 200+ outfitsโ€ข 50+ media professionals โ€ข talented hair & makeup artists โ€ข celebrities โ€ข elected officials โ€ข community leaders โ€” across a multi-day, multi-show, multi-location production that represents thousands of collective hours of passion and hard work. The response has been overwhelming, with social media filled with beautiful images, videos, reviews and comments about the level of fashion production NAFW has brought to the Pacific Northwest. We raised the bar - but more importantly, we raised awareness about mental health and created impact. Because NAFW is not simply about fashion. Fashion supports small businesses. It gives designers and artists visibility. It creates opportunities for models, photographers, HMUA and other creative professionals. It brings communities together. And through NAFW, it also helps raise funds for AmPowering while creating awareness around mental health support.
