L’INSAISISSABLE NATURE DU RÉEL ‱ Our inaugural exhibition “L’insaisissable nature du rĂ©el” in our new address at 26 avenue Matignon, Paris is on view until November 28, 2026. The show, curated by Christian Alandete, features the works of Jean Arp, Constantin Brancusi, Alberto Burri, Lucio Fontana, Sam Francis, Helen Frankenthaler, Alberto Giacometti, Yves Klein, Lee Ufan, Joan MirĂł, Louise Nevelson, Judit Reigl, Germaine Richier, Richard Serra, GĂŒnther Uecker, Maria Helena Vieira Da Silva and Manoucher Yektai. “The elusive nature of reality points to a simple yet dizzying idea: what we call “reality” can never be fully grasped. As soon as we believe we understand it, it shifts, transforms, changes. Reality is not a stable block that can be seized, but a living, fragmentary, sometimes contradictory experience. Reality escapes our senses. We perceive only a part of the world: our eyes filter, and our memory selects. Two people looking at the same scene retain different impressions of it. Reality is never given in its entirety; it is always partially reconstructed. Grasping reality lies at the heart of the artistic quest. Since the avant-gardes, the artist no longer merely reproduces the world, but attempts—beyond representation—to convey the experience of it, often fails, and always begins again.” — Christian Alandete @christianalandete — Music: Can You Find Me / Ruiqi Zhao / courtesy of www.epidemicsound.com #avenuematignon #linsaisissablenaturedureel by @mennour
YINKA SHONIBARE’s first solo exhibition in Paris, “The Wind, the Earth and the Fire” is on view until December 12 at 5 rue du Pont de Lodi, Paris. The show brings various ongoing bodies of work into dialogue, including new quilts, hand-painted bronze and textile sculptures, and positions the multidisciplinary artist as one of the leading voices to explore postcolonialism and hybridity in contemporary art.   Born in London, raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Shonibare has always experienced the world by navigating, and somehow bridging, distinct cultures. Decolonial studies continue to show how defining a sense of identity and belonging is far more complex than solely relying on what can be found in a national archive.   By tracing the history of Dutch wax textiles, Shonibare uncovers the deep layers of complexity embedded within them and conveys the impossibility of pinning down an artifact as authentic. Rooted in Indonesian textile traditions, the hand-crafted wax fabric was appropriated by the Dutch colonisers who began mass-manufacturing it in the 1850s. Its commercialisation failed however in Indonesia because consumers rejected the lower quality of European factory production. Instead, it found a thriving market along the colonial trade routes of West Africa. There, embraced by local communities during the post-independence era of the 1960s, it was customized with regional colours and motifs, ultimately being adopted as traditional attire. — Megan Macnaughton @meganlmacnaughton — Photo credit: @stephenwhiteandco #yinkashonibare #theearththewindandthefire by @mennour
ANISH KAPOOR’s fourth solo exhibition at the gallery is on view at 6 rue du Pont de Lodi, Paris, until December 12, 2026. For his fourth solo show at Mennour, Kapoor proposes a series of sculptures, wall mounted and on bases, in polished stainless steel made between 1998 and 2026. The appearance of that reflective material in the middle of the 1990s marked a vertiginous turning point in the artist’s practice. Kapoor chose polished stainless steel not so much to assert the materiality of the metal than to actually try to make it disappear. “Pushed to an extreme degree,” he explains, “the polished surface ceases to be physical.” — Christian Alandete @christianalandete #anishkapoor by @mennour

ART COLOGNE Journal — What happens between things. Lee Ufan apologises to stones when he moves them. This says a great deal about an artist whose sculptures often consist of little more than a boulder and a steel plate. Born in 1936 in rural Korea, Lee Ufan grew up under Japanese colonial rule, studied philosophy in Tokyo, and became one of the leading figures of Mono-ha — the School of Things — a movement that brought together stone, glass, wood and steel to explore what happens in the spaces between materials. His Relatum sculptures begin with a stone leaning against a slab. Weight meets surface. Geological duration meets industrial processing. One small step changes everything. His painting follows the same logic. “My painting is a game in which the canvas is my opponent.” He paints on the floor, leaning over the surface, his whole body involved. What looks like a single effortless brushstroke may consist of multiple layers and take days. And in his recent Dialogue paintings, the unpainted area becomes as present as the pigment. Something happens in the clash between the painted and the unpainted. In 2026 — the year of his 90th birthday — Lee Ufan receives the Wolfgang Hahn Prize from the Society for Modern Art at the Museum Ludwig Köln. The award is presented in Cologne on 6 November, accompanied by an acquisition for the museum. His work is presented at ART COLOGNE by Galerie Mennour, Paris. ANNIE COHEN-SOLAL & KAMEL MENNOUR ‱ Yesterday, we welcomed Annie Cohen-Solal to the gallery at 26 avenue Matignon for an engaging conversation celebrating the launch of her book, “MĂ©tĂšques et mĂ©tĂ©ores : Portrait de l’artiste dĂ©racinĂ©â€, published by @editions_gallimard. “In our societies, the rootless artist plays a crucial role. As a watchdog and detector of faint signals, the artist charts new paths around questions left unanswered by politicians. Following Antonello da Messina, this gallery of portraits takes us from the young Picasso—who was on file with the “immigration police”—to Huang Yongping, who settled in France following the Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989.” We reflected on the life and work of the late Huang Yong Ping and the many projects we had the privilege of working on together. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for this special event! #anniecohensolal #metequesetmeteores #huangyongping by @mennour
— To mark its 20th anniversary, the musĂ©e du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac is proud to announce a major new acquisition : Refugee Astronaut XII (2024) by British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare. Today, this acquisition reflects our renewed vision : bringing historical collections into dialogue with contemporary creation to explore modern narratives. Embodying both a refugee and a space explorer, this artwork confronts us with migration, conflict, and climate urgency. What do we choose to carry when we must leave everything behind? Acquired with the generous support of @mennour gallery and the artist. YINKA SHONIBARE ‱ Mennour is pleased to present “Abstract Bronze VIII” by Yinka Shonibare on Avenue Winston Churchill as part of Art Basel Paris Public Program. Yinka Shonibare works across sculpture, textiles, and painting to explore cultural ownership, globalization, and belonging. In this sculpture, a bronze form twists and folds as if caught in the wind, its heavy metal made to look weightless, like billowing fabric frozen mid-motion. The surface is hand-painted with Dutch wax patterns – a motif with roots in Indonesia, which was later mass-produced by Dutch companies and sold to buyers in West Africa, where it became a defining part of local style. Through the pattern, Shonibare points to the complex trading history between Africa and Europe. The artwork is on view until Friday, October 23. đŸ“© Contact the gallery by Private Message for more information about the work. — Yinka Shonibare, Abstract Bronze VIII, 2026.
