“Last year in April, I had the honor to premiere my act as Mental Distortion at Monasterio. It is a project that goes deeper than just being a DJ. I am able to express my emotions and feelings through my music which I see as something much deeper than just music. I see it as a way to express myself when words cannot.

Through my sets I want the audience to experience a kind of healing and dissolve into the moment, forgetting all the problems we as humans go through in life, show them what I feel and blend together to create an energy that is deeper than just another night on the dance floor.

When I was preparing for this set I descended myself into a private space, isolating myself into the darker parts of my mind, preparing what I wanted to express. And that’s when the word ritual popped up because this is the word I always use for my performances. Every track I make or play represents another feeling or past experience and it basically puts you through all the emotions, to process and heal about something that you’ve been through or currently going through.

When I perform live, it becomes like a ceremony or ritual for me. The booth turns into my altar and crowd into my equals, together dropping all the weight off our shoulders into the music and ritualistic dance.

Every transition, every break, every heavy moment is a way of expressing what my body and mind cannot speak out loud, and I really want people to feel that it’s more than just another party. I want them to feel the release this ritual brings us, and surrender to the music, a moment where everything dissolves and only the raw truth of the sound remains, just forgetting about everything in this particular moment.

When that happens and I give that feeling to people, the ritual is complete. After such a performance I’m drained and exhausted but in a good way, as being reborn. Because I really put everything into it, all my emotions, feelings, and everything I cannot express with words.”

IN•FER•NAL PODCAST #159 - MENTAL DISTORTION

𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 • Maastricht, Netherlands

𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐘
In the secluded town of Maastricht, a peculiar music act emerged from the shadows in collaboration with the mighty Monasterio Moscow. Mental Distortion was born, already known for his mentally distorted melodies and hard-hitting kicks. Shrouded in mystery, this act combines haunting vocals with dissonant chords to craft an unsettling yet captivating auditory experience. Audiences are drawn not only to the music but also to the enigmatic aura surrounding him. With each note he plays, Mental Distortion challenges conventional notions of sound and emotion, guiding listeners through the twisted corridors of their own unconventional minds.
