POSTS STORIES REELS

These butterflies were completed last autumn/early winter, in coordination with kerava parks reconstruction of perhospuisto! My family and I worked together to repair, sand, redesign and repaint these existing butterflies from the old perhospuisto. It was a wonderful bonding activity.

Cheers to making Kerava home to people of all backgrounds, and a very happy mother's day from the Mentula Family.

Info: NO AI was used in the making of this project. The name of the original butterfly artist has been likely identified, but I've been unable to contact him to verify. Please reach out by message if you have any verifying information on the original artist, or if you would like more information on the name discovered.

This event just happens to align with Globe Art Point's end of year networking event, so there should be fun and good company 😇

✨ Introducing Creatures of the Nordic Folklore and Other Abominations: By Alysia Mentula✨

GAP's 4th window exhibition of the year steps into a world where Nordic myths whisper, strange creatures lurk, and digital imagination breaks the boundaries of what we think monsters can be. 👁️🌙

Alysia Mentula is a digital illustrator whose work bridges concept art, graphic design, and the expansive storytelling of tabletop gaming. Enchanted by the imaginative chaos of worlds like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and the sprawling universes built by dedicated players, she crafts characters and creatures that feel alive. Sometimes cute, sometimes terrifying, but always deeply intentional.

Across novels, gameplay guides, and commissions, her art blends research, narrative, and emotion into beings that pull viewers closer… sometimes at their own peril. And now, these creatures inhabit the GAP Window, larger than life, illuminated, and impossible to ignore.

🖤 Everyone is welcome on 11 December 2025
⏰️Opening Event 5-7pm
📍 Malminkatu 5, 00100 Kamppi, Helsinki

🇫🇮 Suomeksi:
Etsin taiteilijaa, joka on mahdollisesti työskennellyt noin 30 vuotta sitten Uudellamaalla 🕰️🎨 Kyseessä on ulkoveistos, joka on tehty puun ja betonin yhdistelmästä – kaunis ja kiinnostava teostaidettä, jonka tekijä on jäänyt tuntemattomaksi. 😭

🇬🇧 In English:
I’m looking for an artist who might have been active around 30 years ago here in Uusimaa, Finland. The work in question is an outdoor sculpture made from a mix of wood and concrete – a beautiful and intriguing piece whose creator remains unknown. 😭

If you have any information about an artist who worked in the Järvenpää, Kerava or Sipoo area during the 1990s, I’d love to hear from you! 💬 Feel free to reach out or tag someone who might know more 🙌

CALA - a mixed media painting. 👇

I don't usually *paint*. My nerves are very well suited for the ctrl+Z non-permanence of digital illustration. Only, there's sometimes something lost in the lack of texture interactions between an artist and a physical medium. The screen and pen have a rewarding but never-changimg texture. Paint changes viscosity, it fights you or flows--so i really enjoyed going back to basics. Maybe someday I'll have a bit more courage to paint my subjects as well.

This is hung currently at 'Visions' Exhibition in Merirastikultturitalo. Check it out through the 24th of April! by @mentulart

Thanks to @igdahq Finland, I had a chance to listen to really insightful talks from creators at studios like @larianstudios ' Baldurs Gate creator, and a mentorship from @sybo_games ' Art Director Rasmus Møller. I am so grateful to have had the chance to sit one-on-one with someone who could give valuable direction on where my work belongs and what could be of improvement.

Thanks to all the collaborators that participated in @themepark_finland and made it possible: @supercell @metacoregames @stadinao . It gives game industry dreamers a chance to glimpse the possibilities!

I'm pulling this one out of the archives as I cope with the changing world around us. Would you like to see more of my graphics and poster style works?

This one (swipe to see full work) will drop on @artmu_official artmu this Sunday, Nov. 24.

What a workshop! 🤯

Thank you to all who came out to the Creating Dynamic Characters workshop at @helsinginkaupunginmuseo for @hiaafinland 's annual HIAA FEST 2024. This year's event was a partnership with the incredible @startuprefugeesnetwork .

During the workshop, in which 20 participants registered, ranging from ages 8 and above, we discussed the prominence of original character design in our everyday lives. Character design illustration exists everywhere--from food packaging and retail to the more obvious, film, games & literature. Participants used text prompts created by Mistress of Amber and Flame author @marialinwood_author , @ardalencor author Andrew Zimba, and the ART series Jason Janicki to create their vision of the author's intention. Without further context, artists had to make choices and take creative liberties in the absence of the author's explanation. This process brought to light the challenges of non-contextual written language to communicate a visual idea between two creative mediums.

It was such a pleasure to host you all, and thanks sincerely to hiaa and the collaborators for giving me the space to teach something I am so truly passionate about.

So much of what I do is based in research. Let me tell you:

Sometimes when you approach me with a character design or concept idea, I might not be sure what race, class/subclass or inspirations are behind that specific character or game. So, what's left to be done? research.

And there is so much out there- so much between all the different avenues of gaming that it' nearly impossible to take in and save it all before I meet you and draw your character. But I promise you, I will find the answers 😉

What do you think? Do you use research in your line of work? Is it of similar importance to you? by @mentulart

Just reintroducing myself! My name is Alysia, I am an illustrator as well as graphic designer. My average project includes something fantastical, usually for games/fantasy media or the occasional literature illustration. I love character design and concept development, as well as reading things that spark my imagination. What lights you up??
