🌸 world breastfeeding week felt like a good time to take a moment, to pause and reflect - with ~200L of milk produced, 8 months and 12 days i’ve had a life depend on me (which in itself is crazy!!!), not just for cuddles but for nourishment, for sustenance, for health. being able to EBF has been both a privilege and a journey, one that I could never truly understand until I was failing at it.

getting readmitted into hospital after coming home for 2 days had to feel like one of my biggest failures. -12.5% by day 3 meant i hadn’t done my job as a new mum and my baby wasn’t thriving. those 72 hours were some of the most intense moments i’ve had of taking life as serious as possible 🥺 fast forward to several days of triple feeding; skin to skin, pumping, formula, the works and at every 2 hours and 45 mins, sleep and then back up on. the. dot. - my milk finally came in (with thanks to a nipple shield too). i knew BF was what i wanted to do from the get go, we’d had the latch, the bean was keen but as usual my body needed some time to do its thing. i look back on this moment almost weekly, thinking about the poise (and urgency) that every midwife, nurse and my mum showed me during this time, and the resilience of our beanie. as someone with PCOS, i always questioned whether i’d get to be a mum 🙈 having cleo has been such a dream come true rahhhh and i wouldn’t have gotten this far without my village 🎀 oh how I love being a breastfeeding mum 🤓🤓

ps. don’t ever forget to check for wet nappies!!!!
