Shoutout to Lisa for hooking into a bowfin, not to be confused with a snakehead! What do YOU call a bowfin? Some call it a dogfish, others a mudfish, safe to say the bowfin has many nicknames throughout the United States.

After just pulling into a cozy little cove at Stave Island on the St. Lawrence River Ontario Canada I was unsure what lure to use so my boyfriend told me to use his favorite spinner, which I found out to be was the red and white #5 Mepps Aglia spinner. On my very first cast I hooked this 28" 8.24lbs once in a lifetime BOWFIN. Made this rookie fisherwoman hooked for life! #MeppsCatch by @meppsspinners

Q: Why is it called the Bronze Slammer?
A: Designed with a bronze back in mind, this lure was designed for the tournament bass angler to cover water, catch fish and continue spinning throughout a day of fishing.

Q: Why is it called Fire Craw and not just Craw?
A: Because the bite is so hot on this crawfish color, the cool kids are now calling it “Fire”

Just so you know, between Bonnie and Kim, you are looking at ALMOST 100 YEARS of expertise assembling Mepps lures. Rumor has it, they started working here as soon as they could walk. We are extremely lucky to have them back as part time experts after retiring from their full time expert roles. Fair to say the whole Assembly team is working hard to get all anglers ready for the 2026 fishing season. Mepps is extremely fortunate to have celebrated many 50 year celebrations in the past half decade and we continue to celebrate employee greatness with our Assembly Supervisor, Ruth, who becomes the next legend to reach the half-century mark. Not only is Ruth knowledgable with all things Mepps, but she sure is quick too! Ask her to assemble a spinner for you and she has it done by the time you turn around. Speaking of quick, she is also extremely quick at ducking out of a photo, so bless her heart for allowing us to get a photo!

Please join us in congratulating & thanking Ruth for 50 years of Mepps anglers celebrating fish catches and memories that last a lifetime out on the water.

Ruth is one of the many examples of what makes Mepps great.
