Songs for fans of Global Groove:
I don’t love the term Global Groove but what’s a better term for a category of music that appeals to people who like music from all over the world? Definitely NOT “World Music” please…

I’ve made a playlist with all of this and more - mostly focusing on tunes you can get down to. Old stuff, new stuff, club bangers from ALL over the world.

Lemme know what your favs are and what I’m missing!

Equally tuff original and remix by @ianpooley.ofc
Phunky data was @kiko_officiel.fr and Oliver Raymond whose debut record ‘Fashion, or Not?’ came out in 1998 on Edel (before the remix dropped the next year) making waves in both French and German House scenes 🚨

A 90s techno gem from @laurent_garnier. 909 getting an Olympic workout 🏋️‍♂️. This tune dropping after ‘Crispy Bacon’ mania was massive 🧨

Today is a Sun Ra kind of day 🧙🏽‍♂️
Don’t think I could ever get tired of this record.
The session this was recorded in also produced ‘Celestial Road’, ‘Say’ & ‘I’ll Wait For You’ — which ended up on his Strange Celestial Road record.
This one’s been reissued a bunch of times, most recently by one of my favs @strutrecords

This one’s a classic, still always hits in the club 💣
Bel Amour was formed of @edouard_de_tricasse @jcsindres & Franck Keller Jr. Sidney also went on to record the vocals for Supermen Lovers - Starlight.
Who remembers this one?

✨Iconic 1970s Russian ballads, Japanese Funk, Indonesian Prog and a bunch of unseen 35mm film to match, all in one post?

We must be back with my series combining music from around the world with 35mm photography, taken in the same places and time periods by my grandfather I never met.

These are but a small part of an 80,000 image collection taken over 40 countries, over 40 years.

This month, I’ve teamed up with the brilliant @merabhaiii , whom I asked to curate some of his extensive record collection with a country or culture my grandfather Herbert travelled to and photographed over the course of his life.

Well, why pick one place, he replied, when you can go all around the world?

I really loved hearing his selections when he sent them to me - we’ve got a huge range of music that I don’t believe I’ve ever heard in the same place before.

My favourite has to be ‘Juaneco & Su Combo-Ya Se Ha Muerto Mi Abuelo’ from Peru, which I love listening to when going through my granddad’s photographs from the country when he visited in the same year this song was made!

Which track is your favourite?

📸 If you’re interested in seeing more photography, get involved and come down to the next exhibition on the 24th September in London. More details are in the pinned post on my feed.

Stay tuned for more musical adventures next month… by @merabhaiii
