Artist spotlight: Ganga Narayanan (@meraki_ganges)

Ganga Narayanan (b. 1998, Kannur, Kerala) is a visual artist living between Delhi and Baroda. She holds an MVA in Painting (Mural, 2023) and a BVA in Painting (2021) from Faculty of Fine Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.

Her artistic practice centres on the reimagining of Jaali, through multiple spatial possibilities: as hashia , as a vertical landscape, and as a threshold between presence and absence. Working primarily with gouache and copper leaf, alongside other materials, she investigates the Jaali
not merely as an architectural element but as a porous space, one that simultaneously conceals, reveals, separates and connects. Through these explorations, her work considers the shifting relationships between time, materiality, and perception.

Ganga recently exhibited at Progressive Failure at Eikowa Gallery, Gurugram (July 2026) and has been part of several group shows including Emergence- Pop Art at Alliance Française, Ahmedabad (2026), 52nd Kerala State Exhibition, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi (2025); Raw Collaborative ‘24 with Art and Charlie, Gandhinagar; the Space 118 Fundraiser Show (2024); Artix Hotel Art Fair at Taj Palace, New Delhi, with Cultivate Art (2023); Gallery 079, Ahmedabad (2023) among others. Earlier presentations include the 4th Kochi-Muziris Students’ Biennale (2021), Pristine at Priyasri Art Gallery, Mumbai, and the Nasreen Mohamedi Scholarship Display (2019).

Her recognitions include the K. Karunakaran Memorial State Award (2023) by Kerala Lalithakala Akademi and the Padmashri Ramgopal Vijayvargiya Samman for Miniature
Painting (2021), awarded at a national camp organised by Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi and Kalavritt, Jaipur. In 2022, she was awarded the BICAR Writing Fellowship for artists. taken in Kanoria Centre for Arts by @meraki_ganges

Following its inaugural edition, Emergence returns with a new chapter ✨

This July, Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad presents Emergence: Pop Art Edition, a curated group exhibition featuring eight selected artists whose practices engage with popular culture, everyday imagery, and contemporary Indian identities. Through diverse artistic approaches, the exhibition reflects on how the visual language of Pop Art continues to be reimagined within the Indian context.
