It’s ok to “fail”.

I’d been carrying a strange kind of discouragement for a few weeks. Strange, but familiar. A sense of not living up to my own expectations, with the ruminating voice of failure running underneath it.

The reflex is always the same. Push harder.

That reflex rarely comes from wisdom. It comes from a system that wants specific results on a specific schedule. It comes from fear, and from things I absorbed growing up and am still healing from to this day. All of it settles over the eyes like a veil, and what is actually in front of me gets harder to see.

Real resolve lives somewhere else. It’s quieter. It leaves room for rest and for self compassion. It can look at a hard thing without needing to conquer it.

What you keep doing out of love and attention is in no hurry. It can’t be measured or compared. It answers to its own nature, and only if you stay present and trust it do you get to see where it’s going. by @meraudio

For years I just kept trying to push harder. To not make mistakes. To have other people recognize the effort.

It never occurred to me that the problem was not my strength or my effort. It was that I had nothing under my feet. Nothing to hold my ground from the inside.

That ground is not out there. And finding it usually means putting down everything you assumed you were. You are not your work. You are not your role at home. Son, husband, father, brother, none of that is where identity comes from. Not even the story you tell yourself about who you are.

Nobody gets up the mountain carrying all that.

Adhiṭṭhāna is for anyone who is somewhere on that climb right now. I hope you find the ground under your feet. And I hope you stay.

There is a saying in Buddhism. Even sukha is dukkha. Even inside pleasure there is suffering.
We spend our lives chasing what feels good and running from what hurts. The chase never ends, because what feels good always changes. A mind tied to that pendulum rarely finds peace.

That is where spiritual determination starts to matter. The decision to walk the path of caring for your own mind. And to walk it watching your actions, your thoughts, your words. A mountain does not swing.

That is where the first opening toward freedom appears. The summit of the only conquest that actually matters. Your own mind.

We tend to measure things only by what they leave behind. A finished thing, a number, a result we can point at. We call it success or failure and the word closes the case.
What almost never gets counted is the part that made it possible. The returning. The staying. The days when nothing moved and you kept going anyway.
That part leaves no trace. Maybe that’s why we stopped naming it.
Adhiṭṭhāna is closer to a standing place than to a goal. Not certainty, not belief. A decision you make once and then have to make again every morning, quietly, with no one watching.
These images come from mountains. Everything in them turns and folds and comes apart, and the mountain is still there underneath.

What he needs on it is a vocalist.

He is on Boombox. If that is you, drop a comment and we will put you two together.

Living in alignment with who you truly are is one of the hardest gifts to give yourself.
No one else can give it to you. And in times as noisy and disorienting as these, where money and possessions are so easily mistaken for success, it becomes even harder to see clearly. It’s easy to spend your life chasing someone else’s dream, following cultural scripts written by a collective that is itself adrift, navigating by rules that were invented to replace something far more essential: the natural order of things, the abundance we are all born into simply by arriving on a planet that can provide for us, if only we learned to live in tune with its truth instead of the game we invented to complicate our own existence.
It’s easy to end up sailing foreign waters. To lose sight of your own course, pulled by immediate attachments or by an image of yourself that asks you to be something other than what you actually are. Like navigating with someone else’s map, convinced you’re heading in the right direction, while quietly drifting further from where you were always meant to go.
I’m not talking only about relationships, or careers, or the idea we construct of ourselves. I’m talking about something subtler and more necessary: the thread that connects our deepest attachments to our authenticity. That place where we don’t just exist, but actually live. Where we feel whole, enough, and capable simply because we are alive. Not the pride that comes from an achievement, or the promise of a destination that will finally make us happy when we arrive. Just the quiet peace of being who you are. Waking up in the morning and feeling grateful for that.
For many years I lived trying to prove something, to myself and to others. Then a diagnosis punctured that bubble all at once and gave me the chance to find my way back to a truth that had never left. It was just submerged. And it took hitting the bottom to find it again.

Is there a course you quietly drifted from without realizing it? by @meraudio

In the midst of my treatment, I was undergoing a silent yet turbulent change inside of me.

As the disease backed off, my urge to make music came back with an unexpected force.

To the outside world, a cancer diagnosis, losing your livelihood and leaving your life behind can look like the worst of storms. For me, held by the loving support of my wife and family, it became a chance to be reborn into music and into life itself.

Undertow is a tribute to those who walked alongside me through this process. From the deepest part of my being, thank you. Out now on all platforms. 🌊 by @meraudio

Life has unexpected ways of pulling you into waters you never planned to navigate.

At 22 I decided to give my life to music. It happened fast. I was DJing internationally, traveling constantly, living on adrenaline and immediate gratification. Then, at the height of that chapter, I fell into a depression that took years to climb out of and pulled me off the stage, though never away from music itself.

I opened my studio doors and spent almost 25 years recording and producing for others. I told myself that was my course. That it was enough.

Then a cancer diagnosis shook me out of that drift and handed me back a perspective I hadn’t realized I’d lost. A promise I had made to myself 25 years earlier. It felt like being thrown off a precarious raft I had built and called home. I left my studio, the city where I had built my life, friends, family.

But adrift again in waters I would never have chosen, I decided to trust the process. And somewhere in that turbulence I remembered why I had chosen music in the first place, or why it had chosen me.

It took an existential threat to wake me up. And I had the fortune of facing it surrounded by the love of my wife and family, and with access to the care I needed.

That is the story behind Jhãna and behind The Path, an album that completes its cycle this October. Undertow is the track that captures that feeling: a vertiginous shift that pulled me away from a port I was never meant to reach, and brought me back, without warning, to the course I had chosen long ago and quietly drifted from.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for connecting with the music. 🙏 Tap to presave ⬇️ by @meraudio
