ONE COMMON WRITING MISTAKE

One common writing mistake that can weaken your story

Telling the reader how a character feels instead of letting them experience it.

She was nervous.

Her hands trembled as she reached for the door handle.

The second version lets the reader feel the nervousness instead of simply being told about it.

Your goal isn't to explain every emotion.

Let your reader experience the story.

Save this for your next draft!

Don’t just ask, *“Is my story good?”*
Ask: *“What does a reader feel while reading it?”*

A strong story should make readers feel something: curiosity, excitement, tension, sadness, or joy.

Before publishing, get a fresh reader’s perspective. Sometimes another reader can spot what the writer has become too close to see.

BEFORE → AFTER: What Better Feedback Can Do.

Before:
“Something feels off here.”

After:
✅ “The scene has a strong emotional moment, but the transition feels a little rushed. Adding a few lines showing the character’s reaction could make the moment land more naturally.”

Good feedback doesn’t just point out a problem it helps you understand.why it isn’t working and what could make it stronger.

3 Character Mistakes That Can Weaken Your Story

Characters without clear goals
Characters who don't grow throughout the story
Dialogue that doesn't feel natural

What Does a Beta Reader Actually Do?

You’ve read your manuscript so many times that it can become difficult to see it through a reader’s eyes.

That’s where a beta reader comes in.

I read your story as a fresh reader and look for:

Plot holes or confusing moments
Pacing issues
Character development Dialogue that feels unnatural
Scenes that may lose the reader
Overall reader experience

My job isn't to rewrite your story or change your voice.

It's to give you honest, thoughtful feedback so you can make your manuscript stronger before sharing it with your readers.

Have a manuscript you're working on? Let's talk.
