Today’s gorgeous Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon was one for the books!! This race features a beautiful (hilly) course winding through the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside, and an incredibly welcoming race community that included lots of local Amish runners. It’s hard to imagine a more unique race experience. The medal is even an actual horseshoe worn by a horse that lives and works within a few miles of the course!

I like to set a range of goals when I’m taking on something big: a “good” goal, a “great” goal, and a “gold” goal. Today, somehow, I ran faster even than my gold goal. Feeling happy and stuffed full of whoopie pies!!! taken in Bird In Hand, Pennsylvania by @meredithkennedy

The Kennedy pilgrimage to the Salford Lads Club to celebrate the 1980s and 1990s British music scene had to be preserved on the grid.

It’s impossible to put into words what this experience was like, but I’ll try.

For the last week, I joined an incredible group of women thanks to @whoatravel to attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro: 5 days up, 2 days down. The trek was challenging but very manageable, until summit night. Summit night was excruciatingly hard.

At midnight, our group of eight hikers, four guides, and four porters left our base camp at Upper Barafu (15,748 ft elevation) and began the final push. For seven hours, we climbed in the dark with headlamps in the bitter cold, just trying to put one foot in front of the other. The trail was relentlessly straight up and because of the altitude it was hard to get a deep breath. This would have been a tough hike in optimal conditions, but in these circumstances everything felt even harder. My water bladder froze almost immediately and holding my hiking poles was difficult because I couldn’t feel my fingers.

I’m so happy to report, though, that 2 days ago at around 7am, I stood on the summit of Kili at Uhuru Peak (19,341 ft) just as the sun came up. Four of us made it to Uhuru, and finally seeing that iconic wooden sign in the distance after such a long, exhausting, cold night was such a relief, and something I’ll never forget.

I’m grateful for a body that allows me to take on challenges like this. I’m also grateful for a job that supports me in taking time away to pursue personal goals. And I’m especially grateful for my family and friends who constantly cheer me on. But the person I appreciate the very most is my husband Patrick, who never doubted I could do this and held everything together at home so I could fully embrace this experience.

I’m going to post a day-by-day breakdown on stories over the next couple of days, so stay tuned! taken in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania by @meredithkennedy

Wrapping up this year’s Innocence Network Conference with a full heart. It’s truly the honor of my life to lead this gathering - a space filled with courage, resilience, and joy.

Endless gratitude to my incredible team, our generous sponsors, and our powerful speakers who made this experience so meaningful. And to all 1,300 members of the innocence movement who showed up with passion and purpose, especially the more than 300 freed and exonerated individuals. Your strength, your voices, and your leadership are the heart of this movement. We are better because of you.

Until next time, we’ll keep fighting, keep believing, and keep pushing for a more just world!! #innocenceconference taken in Chicago, IL by @meredithkennedy

Birthday magic at ✨ The Magic Castle ✨

For those who don’t know, the Magic Castle is a clubhouse in Hollywood for magicians that’s part museum, part theater, and part time capsule. World-class magicians perform right in front of you in the hallways and various small theaters throughout the building. I’ve always wanted to go, but you have to be invited by a magician, or so I thought. I recently learned that if you stay at the Magic Castle Hotel next door, they can make a reservation on your behalf. So that’s what we did!

Getting to celebrate my birthday there (they even gave me a button) with my family was truly magical. 🖤🎩 taken in The Magic Castle by @meredithkennedy

This was so fun to put together as I got to revisit all the great places I hiked this year and the awesome people I spent time with on the trail. Huge thanks to my friend @allisonmariefleece and the ladies of the @whoatravel #52HikeChallenge 2025 group for the original idea and all the encouragement over the last 11 months!

A friend sent me an article recently about a woman who set a goal to climb all of the Wainwrights, which are 214 peaks in the Lake District in England. The challenge of “bagging” all 214 summits is popular among hikers, and was first accomplished in the 1960s by a local hiker named Alfred Wainwright. He went on to write several books about his experience that are considered works of art, and combine detailed sketches with personal, poetic descriptions of the landscape. The article included this quote from him, taken from one of his books, that described how he felt when he finished his 214th climb. It resonated with me as I was preparing to wrap up this challenge, and made me think about the joy (and sadness) we feel when we accomplish something big:

“Happy? Yes, I was happy, as anyone must be who comes to the end of a long road.
Sorry? Yes, I was sorry, as anyone must be who comes to the end of a long road he has enjoyed traveling.” - Alfred Wainwright by @meredithkennedy
