The start of Meredith Monk's 62nd Season of creating and performing marks the first time she will offer performances in both Mexico City and Bogotá with Vocal Ensemble members Katie Geissinger and Allison Sniffin, followed by two intimate performances/events back home in New York as part of the John Cage Trust's first gala celebrating fellow composer Steve Reich's 90th Birthday and Giorno Poetry System's Benefit co-hosted by Meredith and poet/friend Anne Waldman. Our Online Workshops return in a few weeks, and Meredith's annual Voice as Practice retreat with Ellen Fisher returns to the Garrison Institute this December, open to all. We hope you can join us in appreciating Meredith's work in one or more of these capacities, soon!

🍃El Teatro Jorge Eliécer Gaitán recibió a Meredith Monk bajo el formato Trio Concert.

El público vivió un concierto interpretativo en el que Katie Geissinger y Allison Sniffin, integrantes de su Vocal Ensemble, usaron la voz, el cuerpo y el sonido.

A lo largo de la presentación, las intérpretes alternaron solos, dúos y momentos en trío mediante la combinación de canto, respiración, movimiento y piano.

Las piezas eludieron la narrativa para formar paisajes sonoros que invitaron a habitar el tiempo de otra manera, situando la atención, el silencio y la presencia en el centro de la escena.

Lejos de la grandilocuencia de lo convencional, la propuesta estableció una relación directa con los asistentes a través de la potencia expresiva de la voz humana en una atmósfera de absoluta concentración y calma, idónea para el escenario.

Esta experiencia hizo parte de la tercera edición del Festival NO Convencional: “Espectáculos atípicos en tiempos inesperados”, una coproducción del Idartes.

New date added! Dancing Voice/Singing Body
Online Zoom Workshops with members of Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble

🗓️ October 18 | November 8 | December 6
🕐 Sundays from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM (ET) via Zoom

Sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 days. Each session is led by a different facilitator for 1.5 hours every week. The workshops are open to all experiences and backgrounds.

OCTOBER 18
Ellen Fisher’s session will be movement based, using some of Meredith’s language of gestural shaping. She will lead a comprehensive physical warm-up that opens up the channels of expression to explore various dance narratives.

NOVEMBER 8
Lanny Harrison will focus on shape-shifting and transforming characters in changing landscapes and environments within solo forms, working predominantly from a movement base. She will also touch on how mindfulness/awareness practice and meditation can inform all theater work.

DECEMBER 6
Allison Easter will focus on movement integrated with singing, offering a movement warm up influenced by Laban/Bartenieff, Monk repertory and creative work to improve clarity, strength and expressiveness in the body.

We hope you’ll take advantage of these unique offerings, sharing different exercises and perspectives related to Meredith’s development of the Dancing Voice/Singing Body.

A $25-$15 fee is suggested per session. We appreciate your contribution at any level.

In order to raise funds for Giorno Poetry Systems, John Giorno would produce benefit concerts. Between 1975 and 1994, benefits included performances by Philip Glass, Joan Jonas, Patti Smith, Laurie Anderson, Debbie Harry, Sonic Youth, and John Waters, among many others. After a long break, the tradition starts up again this year with a benefit co-hosted (and headlined) by Meredith Monk and Anne Waldman. This is a special opportunity to see live performances by cultural icons in the intimate context of a historic NYC loft. There are only 75 seats available.

Meredith Monk: la voz como un lenguaje en sí mismo

Desde 1965, Meredith Monk ha convertido la voz en un territorio de exploración: respiración, gesto, textura, ritmo, memoria y presencia.

Durante más de seis décadas ha desbordado las fronteras entre música, teatro, danza, cine y performance, convirtiéndose en una de las creadoras más influyentes de nuestro tiempo y en una pionera de la técnica vocal extendida y la creación interdisciplinaria.

En 2025 recibió el León de Oro a la Trayectoria en Música de la Bienal de Venecia, uno de los mayores reconocimientos internacionales a una carrera artística.

En Bogotá presenta Trio Concert junto a Katie Geissinger y Allison Sniffin, integrantes de su Vocal Ensemble: tres intérpretes, voces y piano, en un formato íntimo que recorre distintos momentos de su obra.

Una voz capaz de sonar antigua y futura al mismo tiempo.
