Love deserves to be celebrated loudly.

When Stephanie reached out for help planning her proposal to Danielle, what stood out to me immediately was how deeply she wanted Danielle to feel loved.

Not just asked.

Celebrated, chosen, and surrounded.

We researched. We watched the weather. We made plans and changed them. The proposal itself eventually became a getaway to Maine, while I worked with Danielle’s mom and sister to quietly build a family celebration waiting for them back home.

And somewhere in the middle of all that planning, I sent Stephanie a late-night reminder:

The most precious part of this is the love.
The question.
The intention.

Everything else is there to support that.

That experience stayed with me for another reason, too.

I believe deeply that love should be met with welcome.

I’m a mom to LGBTQ+ kids. I know that not everyone gets to move through life assuming their love will be celebrated by the people around them.

So I want to say this plainly:
