Halloween Movie Theme Night hints.
This one is TOUGH because it’s going to be hard to get creative and stick to my former “use what I already have or make it” rule while not looking like I went crazy on Amazon buying a party-in-a-box.
Know what I mean?
I did have to buy some things.
I did have the forethought to save all the tickets that Universal cast members handed us before going into the HHN houses. That’s probably going to be my biggest creative contribution and accomplishment. 😀
We’ll see what happens. 😳😫🤨 by @meremac8

THE MOST HYPED food item at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights 2026 (HHN 35) is easily the Carn-Evil Smash Tacos. I recreated these and they are EASY to make and FUN. They taste like a Big Mac, if you like such a thing.
Sean is still talking about these this morning. 😆

The first pic is the real deal from Halloween Horror Nights and the second is mine. (I went a little heavy on the sauce.)
When I tell you these are easy, they are SUPER easy and quick to make. We will not have to lament HHN not offering these next year because we can do these ourselves whenever we want until we get sick of them.

Flour Tortillas (I use street taco size)
Ground beef
Sharp cheddar or American cheese
Dill pickle chips (I use Grillo’s)
White onion
Shredded lettuce (I used bagged)
Thousand Island
Sesame seeds
You’ll need a burger smasher!

~slice onion and set aside and get out other toppings so you’re ready for them.
~Roll ground beef into a ball and season with Salt and pepper
~Cast Iron pan to hot (you’ll have to play with heat. I had to turn mine down after the first couple)
~put a rolled hamburger in the pan and allow to sizzle for a minute or so. (No need for oil) I did these one at a time.
~place a half slice (or a full slice—whatever) on the tortilla and place over the hamburger.
~smash down as far as you can
~allow to heat through for two or three minutes.
~you may need to smash down again.
~flip with a spatula to crisp the other side of tortilla. (I kind of flipped a couple of times to get my desired crispness of both hamburger and tortilla)
~that’s it. Take it out of the pan and put on a plate and serve with the toppings in whatever order you wish. by @meremac8

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE: Life after Death edition.
Like everyone else, we picked up some pumpkins this weekend. (First pic.)
UNlike everyone else, we have three wild pumpkins randomly growing where Luna, our goat, resided comfortably until she passed away earlier this summer. It’s also where Eve and Bella, also goats, resided some time ago until THEY passed away.
Each year around Thanksgiving we fed them the pumpkins from our front porch so we could make way for our Christmas decorations.
Three goats.
Three pumpkins.
Three little gifts by which to remember them. 🎃 by @meremac8

AN UNUSUAL VISITOR came to our estate sale this weekend. I think he’s mad he didn’t get a number in line for our estate sale.
We found out his name is Leroy Jenkins. 🤣🤣

THIS ONE IS PREPARING to leave me. How do I know? The size. To have the energy to make the trip (and there will be stops along the way), they gain 40% of their body weight. This one has successfully found her place as queen of the feeder and enjoys little competition.

Yep. I bet I don’t see this little one even tomorrow. 😭
Be well, sweet thing.

Meanwhile, at the other feeders, hummingbirds are scrambling for juxtaposition to get their weight up.
This is why I have 11-14 feeders up at any given time. I want as many as possible to be able to feed as peaceably as possible for the best chance of survival.
Again, many have already migrated, especially the adult males and some females. Possibly even some older juveniles that know nothing yet except my yard with its flora, foliage and feeders. Boy, are they in for a treat when they fly south and see what their winter home has in store for them.

I am seeing a reduced number for sure. It will dwindle over the next couple of weeks and by the end of September, it will be harder to spot one at a feeder. by @meremac8

THE ADULT MALES are beginning to migrate south already. I do not spot as many adult males (red throat) right now. Most of what I have are females and male and female juveniles. Quite a few of the red throats I still see now are juveniles who have or are beginning to get their red throats in.

BUT HERE AT THE FEEDER in the foreground is a very confident and unbothered adult male. You can tell him apart from juveniles because he just looks and seem…mature. Notice he is not skittish. He stays put and allows the others to swirl around him. He could be a migrant (therefore not super territorial) or he could be one of “mine” who is used to this offspring activity (to which he certainly contributed). I’ll miss them. The females will begin to leave soon with juveniles to follow. I usually have markedly fewer after the first week of September and they wane until my last sighting, which is typically early to mid October. I’ll miss them but feeding them is a lot of work, my hands hurt from cleaning and filling 12 feeders every other day and the 6 month break fuels my excitement for their return. 🤣❤️ #hummingbirds #rubythroatedhummingbirds #birds taken in Hanover, Virginia by @meremac8

Leeanne Morgan.
When we came back from vacation, I realized I had somehow missed that she was going to be in Richmond. My algorithm failed me but I suppose it knew I rarely purchase tickets to anything since I haven’t been to a show (or a concert) in ages.
Thankfully, she added a late show and her genius marketing team disseminated the information through our socials by having her personally address us with her charming drawl, “Hey, Richmond dolls…” so I snapped them up.
She’s even funnier in person. She’s the kind of comedian where the storytelling is natural, flows so easily and there’s never a moment where you feel the joke is rehearsed or, worse, is in danger of not landing. She was flawless.

We ate at The Fall Line for the first time and I highly recommend it. It’s been on my “list” for ages and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was bustling and sexy; the food, yummy; the servers attentive. Even better, Sean knew exactly where to park since he DJs in and around there often enough. Parking in Richmond can be a challenge, one that ruin a date night in a heartbeat so his prowess was a plus.
Perfect evening. by @meremac8

The sweetest scene.
This must be a very safe space for them. Thankfully, the real estate agent from whom we were getting a tour understood and fully supported this distraction. 😃 by @meremac8
