Meet Klasse Reyle! Merle Pappelbaum (*2002, Germany) is a painter whos work draws on the ornamental abstraction found in organic structures. Many of the figures in her paintings emerge from an ongoing fascination with birds, a motif that has fascinated her for a long time and often appears in different forms. At the center of her works is the idea of chimeric beings, creatures that resist clear categorization, part human and part something else, often resembling familiar organic or animalistic forms. They live on the border between familiarity and strangeness, evoking both recognition and unease. She is particularly interested in mythological figures such as harpies and in the ways femininity manifests within these hybrid bodies. Their distorted forms may seem unsettling, but they also reveal a certain vulnerability, opening a space of intimacy between the figures and the viewer. Her working process often begins with sketches, but develope intuitively while painting, allowing the figures to evolve in the course of the process. by @merlepappelbaum
