ㅤ
Merlin Bobb tells Jeffrey Sledge on Mixed and Mastered how he almost missed a group that became R&B royalty. ㅤ
Merlin Bobb tells Jeffrey Sledge the story behind “Casanova” on Mixed and Mastered. Gerald Levert was down to try something new, but his father, the O’Jays legend himself, wasn’t having it. So they made it on the side anyway. By the platinum party, Merlin was trying to hide from Eddie at the door. Instead, Eddie walked over and called him the greatest.

Seven months. That’s how long Missy Elliott told Merlin Bobb no.
ㅤ
Imagine the timeline where she won that argument. No Supa Dupa Fly. No trash bag suit. No “Get Ur Freak On.” Half your favorite videos never get made.
ㅤ
Sometimes the most important job in music is refusing to take no for an answer. 🌧️
