The ocean calls, see what ripples below... 🌀

As the sun bled into the wild western sea, a maighdeann na tuinne rested upon the tideworn stones. She watched the horizon in silence, as though listening to a conversation no mortal could hear. When at last she spoke, it was not to the gulls, nor to the sea, but to whoever had wandered close enough to hear.

"When the sun finds itself reflected in water that does not belong to the sea, remember this: not every treasure is meant to be carried home, and not every loss is meant to be mourned. Leave behind what asks you to become smaller, and the tide will return what has always known your true name."

The last sliver of sunlight slipped beneath the horizon, just as a wave washed over the rocks. When it receded, the maiden was gone.

A single strand of red hair drifted upon the evening tide, glowing for one heartbeat before the sea claimed it once more. Only the sunset remained, glowing as though it knew the rest of the story.

The ocean calls, see what ripples below... 🌀

Let's dive into some folklore today by exploring the tale that this beautiful @finfolkproductions tail is named after.

Scylla was originally a breathtaking sea nymph who lived among the coastal rocks. She caught the attention of the sea god Glaucus, who fell deeply in love with her. When she rejected him, he sought help from the sorceress Circe.

Circe herself desired Glaucus. Consumed by jealousy, she poured a magical poison into the pool where Scylla bathed. The enchantment transformed the nymph into a horrifying creature.

From the waist upward, Scylla retained the appearance of a beautiful young woman. But below that her body became a nightmare: Six long serpent-like necks. Six snapping heads lined with multiple rows of razor teeth. Twelve powerful, tentacle legs.

Barking dogs were also said to emerge from her waist, giving rise to her name, which may be related to the Greek word for "puppy."

She was both mesmerizing and horrifying; beauty corrupted into terror. What do you think of this tragic tale?
