Emergency protest outside the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero yesterday, opposing the government's decision to pursue drilling in Jackdaw.

After a deadly summer of back-to-back heatwaves, this reckless decision shows Labour continue to prioritise their billionaire oil and gas donors over people and planet.

We demand Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh REJECTS the licence to drill at Rosebank to prevent further harm.

✊🏽 WHEN WANDSWORTH SENT AN INDIAN REVOLUTIONARY TO PARLIAMENT

Join us for Black History Month with speaker Marc Wadsworth, author of Comrade Sak, about Shapurji Saklatvala. Saklatvala was a fighter for Indian independence and against the British Empire, elected for Battersea North as the first Labour MP of colour in 1922 and re-elected in 1924 as a Communist. His impact in local, national and international movements for radical change is shown by the fact he was the first person arrested in the 1926 General Strike, and then banned from India by the British govt. Come and discuss all this and inspirations and lessons for today! by @mertongreenparty

Out with @lambethgreenparty to help get Sonia Winifred elected in the Myatt's Fields by-election this Thursday! Greens missed out on this seat by just 17 votes in May so if you can spare some time in the next two days, every little helps 💚 by @mertongreenparty

Merton Greens (along with some Waltham Forest and Bristol Greens here) were back in Holborn and St Pancras this weekend to help get @greenpartyzack elected this Thursday!

If you can spare some time this week, there are still many ways to get involved with the campaign, see link in bio! 💚 by @mertongreenparty

🟢 Book now for our next OPEN MEETING on Tues 27 October, 7.30pm at Merton Arts Space, Compton Road, Wimbledon SW19 7QA 🟢

We're delighted that Shireen Asaw, newly elected Green councillor in Lewisham, will chair our panel focusing on London's legacy of colonialism.

Historian and green investor Nick Robins will take us back to the East India Company, examining how this London-based shareholder-owned corporation extracted vast wealth from India and pushed opium into China - and what this means for cultural activism today. Nick is the author of Reckoning with Britain’s imperial legacy: time to search for new heroes (New Weather Institute) and The Corporation That Changed the World (Pluto Press).

Fevzi Hussein, lifelong trade union activist and podcast presenter, will shed more light on the story of black migration to Britain, in particular the Windrush generation, with some fascinating data and first hand accounts from the migrants themselves. His talk will celebrate the contribution this group of migrants made to rebuilding Britain following the second world war.

Saqib Desmukh, Director of Insaafi CIC, will tell us a little about his work looking at local history and in particular those Merton residents who profited from the slave trade or the East India Company.

🟢 This event is open to the public - please scan the QR code above or click the link in bio to register 🟢
