it’s our last summer weekend. let’s make it hot. a proper swim in the warm ocean, spent in LA

wait. my first time in the US was exactly 10 years ago, landing in LA on August 29th.
you met me in the convertible at LAX, we grabbed burgers at In-N-Out, and drove straight to the ocean

I know it’s cliché
but let me put on the La La Land playlist for the drive

give me warm ocean, and leave me there
someone’s eyes on me from the beach
yours, or the bodyguard’s
with every wave I feel less afraid, and lose my grip on safety

a dose of modern art on every trip
and I love how the palette echoes the shot before it

architecture is food for my soul, and for my eyes
my favorite moment: arriving after dark, then waking up to open the shades on a city I haven’t seen yet

concrete + stainless steel
never gets old

my obsession with plates

somehow I remember the first time you did this, years ago
adjusting your curls
and I just
fell in love

going through random stuff

this combination in California of something old as f - like these wooden poles with adds - next to all the driverless cars

a new city means endlessly scanning every small detail around me

and in the end - classic

when life gets hard, look up at the planets and the stars
watch films about the universe and everything space-related
it pulls the focus off your own small life for a while

and then just disappear into the ocean,
spend some time there alone, and you’ll feel the life force returning to your body
going through loss, going through grief
just give it space
and time
and one day you’ll feel life
back in your body, moving through your veins

just a note to myself

we’re all going through rough times, ones we only open up about to the closest people around us
and sometimes I just wonder

Studio DRIFT and the Conservatorium Hotel.
Two true legends of Amsterdam.

I’ve been following Studio DRIFT since I moved to the city.
And the Conservatorium, as someone who deeply loves architecture, I’ve always stopped to look at its details, fascinated by how perfectly they integrated the old with the new.

So when Mandarin Oriental reached out to me to document the making of their signature fan, and told me it was being created by Studio DRIFT, all the dots connected. Suddenly, I was filming two of my favorite brands in the city, bringing them together in one visual story.

Capturing the raw, tactile process behind a design object is what I love most. When you focus on the hands, the textures, and the custom sound of craftsmanship, a product becomes a story.

Quality with no limit.
Nights warm smelling of ocean.
Thirsty.

Slow.

My making-of short film for artist @ella.bril and her 6-meter oil painting created for Maxwell Cafe in Amsterdam.

It was a joy to witness and film someone completely in their element.

Some analogue shots were woven into the story, and the final scene shows the artwork in place at the cafe, blending seamlessly into the environment, like another group of people sitting right next to you. taken in Maxwell cafe by @meseptember
