Three years ago, I made the scariest decision of my life—and it changed everything.

I handed in my resignation as a pre-board screening officer at the airport—a job I’d held for eight years. It paid well, came with great benefits, and felt safe. But deep down, I knew I was settling.

Letting go wasn’t easy. I was conditioned—like so many of us—to believe that sticking to a ‘good job’ was the only way to succeed. Go to school, go to college, get a job, stay in that job. That’s the system we’re taught to follow.

But I couldn’t ignore the pull to build something bigger. I wanted a life of passion, freedom, and purpose. Most importantly, I wanted to be there for my son. I didn’t want to drop him off at daycare or miss the moments that truly matter.

So, I took the leap. It was terrifying to leave the comfort of what I knew, but it’s the best decision I ever made.

Now, I meet so many people who want to do the same:
“I want to work from home.”
“I want to stay home with my kids.”
“I want to travel the world and still make money.”

And I get it. But here’s the truth: the key to creating that kind of life is mastering a skill.

Not just any skill—a skill that works online, that’s in demand, and that you can become the absolute best at. For me, that skill was social media. Specifically, it was growing accounts.

From 2012 to 2021, I posted over 10,000 pieces of content. I tested, I failed, I experimented, and I learned exactly what performs. I figured out underground methods to grow accounts faster and better than anyone else. And I became obsessed with helping others create better content.

That didn’t happen by accident—it happened because I poured everything into learning and mastering my craft.

So, if you’re serious about creating freedom for yourself, start here:
➡️ Learn a skill that’s in demand.
➡️ Practice until you’re an expert.
➡️ Become so good that people need to work with you.

The life you want isn’t out of reach—you just need to put in the work to build the foundation.

Holding my second son, I realize we don’t only raise our children. They raise parts of us, too.

They force us to figure out who we are. They expose the parts of ourselves we’ve avoided and then put that version of us to the test.

Before my first son, I was living selfishly. I didn’t fully know myself because, honestly, I had never really been tested.

Fatherhood tested me.

The emergency C-section was traumatic, and I struggled more than I knew how to admit after becoming a dad. It took therapy, uncomfortable self-reflection and years of reps to become the father I am now.

This time feels completely different.

Holding Zayn feels effortless. His birth was peaceful and healing. I’m more present, more patient and far more certain of who I am.

Not because the second time is automatically easier, but because I’m not the same man I was the first time.

I don’t look back at those early struggles with shame anymore. They were part of what changed me.

My first son made me a father.

My second is showing me how much fatherhood changed me. by @mesmerize

The older I get, the more I realize opportunities don’t just happen. You earn your way into the right rooms.

There’s something special about being surrounded by people who all care about the same mission. We’re a small, lean team at @ancestralsupplements, but everyone is working toward helping millions of people live healthier lives. When you’re around people like that, the conversations are different. You leave with more ideas, more motivation, and a bigger belief in what’s possible.

Sometimes I catch myself thinking about how crazy it is. I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, and now I’m in Nashville surrounded by people who are genuinely passionate about health, wellness, and making a positive impact.

Most people go on a babymoon and still can’t shut it off.

Still thinking about work.
Still checking things.
Still somewhere else mentally.

I get it. That was me for years.

This is the first trip I didn’t bring my laptop.
First time I actually felt present.

Just my wife, my kid, and this chapter of life.

Took me a long time to understand this, but…

I spent the last year in my office.
Just working.

Now I’m in a great spot—
and finally slowing down.

This kind of life isn’t luck.
It’s what happens when you get really good at something you care about.

And it shows up everywhere.

How you do anything… is how you do everything.

The way you train.
The way you work.
The way you follow through when no one’s watching.

Ask yourself—
where are you cutting corners? taken in Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos by @mesmerize

No one really talks about this shift.

For a long time, you think you’re “living.”

Going out.
Chasing women.
Doing whatever feels good in the moment.

It feels like freedom.

But at some point… something changes.

For some, it’s a kid.
For others, it’s getting married.
A career that actually matters.
A business that depends on you.
Or just waking up one day and realizing you’re stuck in the same loop.

Same nights.
Same conversations.
Nothing really moving forward.

And that’s when it hits—

That wasn’t really living.
It was just chasing the next hit.

Real life feels different.

Slower.
More responsibility.
Less exciting on the surface.

But it actually means something.

This is what it looks like to care deeply.
It stays on your mind.
It sharpens what already works.
It doesn’t leave when it gets quiet.

I made a promise to myself early on.
I would do everything in my power to make sure my child wasn’t raised by a daycare.

Not because there’s anything wrong with daycare.
Because I didn’t want to miss his life.

I didn’t want to look back and realize I gave away the years that matter most.
I wanted him to grow up with my presence.
My values.
My example.

When he was born in 2021, that promise became real.
That was the year I left the traditional 9 to 5.
Not to work less.
To live differently.

Between meetings, I’m doing the dishes.
Between calls, I’m folding laundry.
Between tasks, I’m watching him grow.
Playing with him.
Being there when it counts.

Is it perfect? No.
It can be stressful.
Working while he’s home isn’t always easy.
There are moments where focus is harder.

But knowing he’s in the house with me matters.
Knowing he’s being raised by the woman I married matters.
Knowing I’m present matters.

Those moments might look small.
They aren’t.

My father did the best he could.
Work looked different in his generation.
I don’t blame him.

But I know what it feels like to miss parts of that presence.
So I chose to do it differently.

Maybe this resonates with you.
Maybe you’ve felt that pull too.

That feeling that something matters more than just getting through the workday.
That quiet thought that says there has to be another way to do this.

I’m not saying this path is easy.
Or that it looks the same for everyone.

But if being present matters to you, that instinct isn’t wrong.
If you want more time, more involvement, more connection, that doesn’t make you unrealistic.

It makes you intentional.

In this generation, true wealth isn’t just income.
It’s availability.
It’s presence.
It’s time.

And if that’s what you’re building toward, you’re not behind.
You’re early. taken in Banff, Alberta by @mesmerize

First real date night in almost six months.
New city. Just the two of us.

I spend a lot of time building.
Chasing goals.
Trying to become better at business.
A better dad.
A better husband.

Nights like this remind me why any of it matters. by @mesmerize

This year shaped me more than any year so far, both professionally and personally.

I moved to a new city 90 days ago, and the people who showed up — along with the ones who stayed close — made it feel like home faster than I expected.

I get to work with some of the best in marketing,
people operating at a level I’ve always admired.

I also spent almost six months in therapy, doing the internal work I knew I needed.

Two very different kinds of growth with the same purpose: becoming better.

My first job was McDonald’s, and I’m proud of that. It taught me work ethic long before I understood success.

Grateful for the friendships, the opportunities, the lessons, and the progress on every level.

If you’re working on your own growth, in any form, keep going. Your life can change faster than you think. by @mesmerize
